Show -NEWS- Spanish Fork DFJH receives grant Balloon launch at ALA for earthquake table Covering what matters most B8 • WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2008 Sharon Miya and Janelle Hanks, science teachers at Diamond Fork Junior, received a grant for an earthquake tremor table through the Nebo Education Foundation. Janelle said, "We are so excited about getting this grant. We will be using it to buy an earthquake shake table. Our students will be constructing buildings, and then we will use the earthquake table to simulate an earthquake to see if their buildings will hold up. We want to show students what happens when earthquakes hit, especially since we live in an earthquake zone.1' a 501 (c) (3) organization created to bring businesses and donors together for the benefit, of Nebo District school children. The foundation carefully manages and disperses tax deductible donations to local schools. Anyone interested in donating to Nebo District schools, classes or programs can do so through the Nebo Education Foundation. Your contribution is a tax deductible charitable gift as provided by law. The Nebo Foundation Board is honored to be able to assist our great teachers and staff to provide an excellent education to our children," said Kim Anderson, foundation board member. The Nebo Education Foundation meets the first of every month to discuss educational grants for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning. The Nebo Education Foundation is A lot has been going on at American Leadership Academy this week. To end the week, ALA's CTE Into classes hosted and observed a real hot air balloon launch and demonstration. The class has been recently learning about different jobs-both full-time and for leisure-along with transportation and GPS. Guest pilot Bob Haupt, of Valley "View Ballooning, came with his balloon and team to display how a hot air balloon is set up and launched. He demonstrated by floating 30 feet in the air and even took CTE teacher, Jerilyn Brown, along with him. American Leadership Academy recently had their Fall Sing and introduced their new choirs. The show featured Evolution, the high school show choir, and inPULSE, the junior high show choir. The other choirs featured were Encore, a small Jazz Harmony group, Concert Choir and Alliance, all the vocal groups combined. New choir logos were also introduced. For Evolution, the logo is in the square box and has the U in the middle. The meaning is to change YOU first in order to evolve to something better and then you can change and "LIFT" others. The Jr. High Show Choirs' name is inPULSE, and the theme for their show this year is, "All about Love." The Alliance logo symbolizes all the choirs when they untie and sing together. All of the circles on the left hand side are the different choirs and the red dot in the middle is the director of the choirs, Mr. Lunt. The choir will perform their next concert in December.
