Owlz lose more than series finale Sen Webster Sports editor When Owlz' first baseman Jay Brossman stumbled, missed a potential inningending pop fly and fell hard to the ground in the seventh inning of the final game of a three-game series against the Missoula Osprey, Orem lost more than just the lead. Brossman lay still while trainers tended to him after the play and was taken away in an ambulance in Orem's 5-3 loss. "All of his vitals were good," said Owlz manager Tom Kotchman. "He might have been unconscious when he first hit his head when he went backwards on the pop up and he had response in his hands and in his feet." Two runs scored on the play as the Osprey came from three runs down in the inning to finish with five runs, all in the seventh. Brossman's error was one of four Orem errors in the game. "It's just how we play," Kotchman said about the errors. "You have that grapefruit and take a fork and punch it, sometimes it squirts that way and sometimes it squirts that way. You don't know. You playjust m a n comes at a time when t h e Owlz a game ahead of Orem in the first half of the season in order to get the final playoff spot. If the same team in the division wins both half seasons, overall record decides the other playoff spot. If Brossman is out for an extended period of time, Orem's playoff chances could really be hurt. He leads the team in batting average (.379), hits (83), games played (51), jay Brossman ing a playoff spot. After the loss to Missoula, Orem trailed Idaho Falls, which earned a playoff spot by winning the first half of the season by two games, and led the Ogden Raptors by a game in the second half of the season. If the Owlz (8-8) fail to win the second half of the Pioneer South Division, they need to finish a game ahead of Ogden, which finished half at _bats (219) and RBI (40). Kotchman said that the trainers expect Brossman to be out of action for at least a week, Orem finished the seven-game home stand 3-4 (1-3 against Helena and 2-1 against Missoula) and returns home for a threegame series against the south division last-place team, the Casper Rockies.
