Each of the hundreds of thousands of songs at Pandora.com is listened to and "hand clicked" through more than 400 musical attributes, including melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, form, lyrJosh Titus ics and hundreds of others. As UVSC student Jacob Russell, who spends from one to six hours a day on the site, said, "Pandora.com makes for good 'sexy time.'" While Pandora.com is great and easy to use, it has things that can be disappointing. Freshman Stuart Buchanan-Jackson said, "The only thing I don't like is that you can't specifically play a certain song." Due to copyright laws, it cannot play a specific song you are in the mood to hear. You are able to type in the song and hear songs similar and eventually hear the song you want, but never right away. For that reason, Pandora, com was ranked number three behind music paysites iTunes and eMusic on Entertainment Weekly's Best Music Web sites. Another thing that bothers 19-year-old Jessica Hocker is "it can only skip 10 songs within an hour." It is another copyright stipulation that restricts you from having "radio ADD" and flipping through songs too quickly. But even with these slight imperfections, Pandora.com made the list for Time magazine's 'Top 50 Web sites of 2006," which is quite the achievement today with the Internet being as innovative as ever. Aside from Pandora.com (my personal favorite), there are many other good Internet radio providers. Here are a few of the others that I think are worth listening to: The best of Britcom tors whole-heartedly, quoted originally by The Daily Herald's Jessie Evans. BYU student Devin Carroll said, "Internet radio is by far one of the best ways to discover new bands." Everyone seems to agree. Jacob Russell discovered Hot Chip's "Over and Over," Jessica Hocker found Gatsbys American Dream's "The Giant's Drink," Stuart Buchanan-Jackson came across Rocky Votolato's "Passing White Daises," and I found Kings of Leon's "On Call." In cases of emergency, they are more useful than ever,.1;If I need the phone number to a business or the time of the next showing of Hot Rod, I can send a text message to Google Text and get the desired info within seconds. I like not having a long distance bill. It's all the same price. I don't even have a home phone. Unlike a landline phone, I can use my cell phone when I'm on vacation, at school or even at the gym! So, you see, it's not the cell phones that I don't like, but the morons who use them. I hate the woman in the minivan filled with eight babies, who's either hauling or putting in the fast lane on the freeway, and is chatting away on the iPhone glued to her botoxed face. Do you even love your kids? I hate the lady in line in front of you in the grocery store that would rather gossip with her sister than pay attention to the people cashing her out and asking if she wants paper or plastic. Do you know what rude is? I hate the 16-year-old prom queen driving with her knees while one hand puts on way too much makeup and the other is texting her jock boyfriend. Didn't you hear the news last year when Utah had its first child killed by a girl texting while speeding through a neighborhood? Not a good idea. I hate the word "texting." I hate the ding-dongs who bring their cell phones in movie theaters. There's always one person who decides to carry on a text message conversation with half of their contacts for half an hour while everyone behind them is distracted by the blue display of my discontent. There's always some non-computersavvy person who has no clue how to "silence his phone, which results in its going off halfway through the movie. And then there's that person's spouse whose phone goes off two minutes later and didn't think to silence hers when his had just gone off. Theater owners should invent and install some sort of device to scramble the airwaves, rendering cell phones useless in theaters. Morons. Because of cell phones, I'd ratherdri ve down the freeway with drunk drivers than people on their cell phones. I'd rather see movies in empty theaters by myself than with some text-friendly teen or an incompetent crooner that shouldn't be out of the retirement home anyways. Put your cell phones away. We all hate you. Use your phone at the appropriate time. PT or FT Carpet Cleaners wanted. We Train. $7.50 - $10 per hour. Flexible Hours. Great Company. Call Annie 377-5874.
