Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE August 2010 B13 SCULPTURE continued from Page B2 LEDs, a veritable rainbow of melted plastic and a number of other brightly colored elements that create a poignant juxtaposition of chaos and playful harmony. The toy gorilla guarding one of the particularly difficult holes adds humor to the sense of frustration that recurs throughout the course. Despite the novelty of the idea, the exhibit's execution as a mini-golf course has its difficulties. Visitors are asked to don cloth shoe covers, and take care when playing around "extremely fragile" obstacles. Some of the holes, while thought-provoking and beautiful, such as Madelin Coit's "SHREDDER: an Autobiography," aren't even worth trying to negotiate, and would fit better in traditional art exhibits. As a venue to experience art, it has its troubles as well. One visitor said she didn't expect the golf course to be playable for another few days and objected to the loud, almost invasive, sound of clanking metal that is a necessary element in completing the 18th hole. True appreciation of the course comes in the idea driving the exhibit's execution—to make art a journey that both artist and viewer take together. The exhibit will run until Sept. 16. k.araneo-yowell@ chronicle.utah.edu ABBEY ARMSTRONG/The Daily Utah Chronicle Mini golfers try out the Salt Lake Arts Center's new course, which involves pieces of contemporary art. The exhibit runs through Sept. 16. SEMANTICS continued from Page B2 the song "Thirsty." Silverberg hits a power in her voice that is subdued for the majority of the album. Her distinguished voice is complemented with back-up, choral-like harmonization. Silverberg and Schweitzer's vocal collaboration finds its stride in the song "Want to Be," and picks up the pace toward the end. If their energy and story-telling quality continues into their third album, the musical collaboration between Schweitzer I. and Silverberg will have continued success. The album hints at the storytelling brilliance found in Sufjan Stevens' "Come Feel the Illinoise" and the potential energy of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's "Howl." Sound Semantics is a band worth keeping an eye on, should the band have another stop in Salt Lake City.
