Show November 2009 THE DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE 41 / / Rivalry Guide : good eats on game day Ithough BYU remains decidedly one of the worst places on Earth, downtown Provo is in the middle of a renaissance of food.* This charming new addition to the Provo scene attempts urban chic yet affordable dining. Its self-professed specialty, the dumpling—pot stickers, essentially—is less than amazing, however, and a little salty. But it is one place in Provo you can get boba tea, which on second thought, might come without the tea. 163 N. University Ave. 801-375-3138 Provo's success in this isolated case is beneficial for Ute fans considering this year's Holy War requires travel to the unholy territory known as Utah County. Although we hope to leave a bad taste in the mouths of every Cougar fan, at least there will be good eats available for us. When asked what kind of restaurant this was, a waiter told me to think of it like Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. Although a bit more swanky and urban than Grandma's house, the idea was clear: down-home comfort food—gussied up. 100 N. University Ave. 801 -373-8000 Here is a sampling of a few potential spots to go for some grubongSmeday. An impressive swanky lounge feel, it has all the ameneties of an upscale restaurant and bar—except alcohol. But that, oddly, is the appeal. Sure, the food is high-quality and delicious, but the fact that you can order wine, martinis and a dozen other cocktail-like drinks all without the alcohol is both amusing and telling to the fact that this place caters to the local dry clientele. I recommend the rosemary pomme frites with garlic aioli. 86 N. University Ave. 801-701-6780 • /s University Ave. ALUMNI assume most, if not all, would the case, it's better to be a comefromBYU.
