Art This quartet festival will, we are sure, be one of the highlights of this terrific June Conference, said Hulbert Keddington, chairman of the music committee. Admission to the festival is free with both Friday and Saturday performances beginning at 8 p.nt. Is For Ten quartets will sing each night. Although there will be no formal competition or naming of the best group, Mr. Keddington said, there will be a spirit of competition among the groups to do the best job once they urc on the stage. Theyll have a lot of fun and so will the thousands who attend the festival, he said. Quarters are from Kansas, California, Arizona, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Missouri and Alaska. Also appearing at the festival both nights will be a brass band from Tooele organized by C. Roy Ferrin. Mr. Ferrin directed the Tooele High School band which played at President Nixon's inaugural in January. The Entire Family GRANADA KILLS CALIF. Art is for everybody ilies. especially fam- This very well could have been the theme of the second annual art show of the Reseda Stake. During the show, held recently at the stake center, hundreds viewed the more than 300 painting, sculpturing, photography and commercial drawing entries. The first night of the show was on our Stake Family Night because I feel such activities as this should be attended by the entire family, explained Stake Pres. Harold F. Rogers. Results were overwhelming, .surprising even the most optimistic of those arranging the show. Pres. Rogers expectation were fully borne out, commented Paul Alden, activity counselor of the Reseda Stake Mutual Improvement Assn, which sponsored the event. Before the doors had been open very long the first day of the show, the cultural hall was crowded. The most gratifying aspect was how our young people, became absorbed in what they were seeing. They really enjoyed the displays, Mr. Alden added. Mr. Alden observed that in the pressures of modern society, and because of the type of entertainment fare too often pushed at people by movies, television and radio, such cultural events as the art show can afford a welcome relief. As people viewed the exhibits, we played fine music on the sound system and the young people who hear such music infrequently, if at all, seemed to like it as much as they were enjoying the art exhibits, he said. The important thing is that families as units enjoyed the show together, and the enjoyment was genuine. We are not trying to push culture at anyone. This show proves to us you dont have to. Just make it available and the people are eager to come and enjoy it. While adults and young people alike submitted entries, the Best of Show" entry award W'ent to Parry Merkley, 17, Northridge, Calif. His entry was an abstract combining four separate views of a head. It wras done in brown and white wiin Lik lines. A total of 28 awards were given to adults and juniors in the four entry classifications. Judges included a professional photographer, artist, and movie studio art department staff member. De Rcta Mathews, activity counselor of the MIA stake board, played a key role in putting the show together as did Edith president of the MIA board. Judges were Robert Sheppard, Glen Andersen, Dorothy Lundquist, Jennie Brim-hal- l, Nadine Holdsworth, John Van Orman, Val Thornton, and Dick Smith. Mc-Intir- e, Phillip Nolen is MIA superintendent. Helping him were board members Mark Ludlow, Rex Holland, Elaine Murray, and Pat Johnson. fa & Family views paintings in v. annual art show of Reseda Stake.
