Bishops (and branch presidents) of students leaving to attend school away from home should immediately see that their pink membership records are forwarded to the Office of the Presiding Bishopric in accordance with the following instructions from page 118, item L, of the General Handbook of Instructions, No. The TSc fyi&upJl 1 This week in the life of President David O. Mission pres. James L. McMurrin uttered prophecy concerning Elder David O. McKay: If you are faithful, you will yet sit in the leading councils of the Church. Upon an invitation of the officers and directors, President McKay became a member of the Academy of Political Science, Columbia University, New York. May SI, 1921 Dedicated 22 buildings and 13 dormitories at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. Farewell at Sauniatu. As President McKay left the sobbing Saints, he felt impressed to return to leave his blessings with them. After the prayer, the saints returned solemrJy to their village and the prayer was written down and the place where President McKay had stood was marked with a pile of stones and a copy of the prayer was buried beneath, together with an account of the entire proceedings. A year later, on May 31, 1922, a monument was unveiled and dedicated in commemoration of the visit of President McKay. On a bronze plaque, fastened to the monument, is etched the following legend of this visit: Today, Tuesday, May 31, 1921, Apostle David O. McKay stood Just Across the River And Pronounced a Memorable Apostolic Blessing Upon the Assembled Sauniatu Saints A Fitting Climax to a Perfect Visit . . . The dedicatory services were attended by hundreds of people, d essed in white, and by 40 missionaries: the program was very impressive and appropriate. Presidents Henry D. Moyle and Hugh B. Brown, President Joseph Fielding Smith, Elder Harold B. Lee, and Elder Marion O. Romney were other General Authorities present y May 26, 1963 A very impressive and inspirational solemn assembly was held in the Manti Temple. President McKay presided and spoke. All General Authorities who were in the country were in attendance. In addition, 1500 priesthood mem- bers, including Joseph Hattan Carpenter, 102 years of age, were in siudance. A reporter of the Manti Messenger said, A spirit of peace fell over the Manti Temple or Sunday morning and radiated its quiet, reverent atmosphere into the homes and churches of the surrounding valley. The occasion was commemorating the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Manti Temple. May 29, 1968 Presented with a certificate of membership in the Associated Alumni of Weber College Emeritus Chapter. 20, 1968: Bishops should send to the office of the Presiding Bishopric promptly for transfer to student or to regu- lar wards or branches the pink duplicate records of membership of all students attending school away from home. Home address and the name of the school must be on the record of membership. Please note the urgency of this. Students are often far into the school year before their pink memberships are received by the bishops and branch presidents where they reside. A home ward bishop should not that he should wait for a request from the Office of the Presiding Bishopric before mailing to that office the pink membership records of his ward members who have left to enter school. Transfers should be effected when the student enters college, and the membership should remain there until he graduates, discontinues school, moves to another college, or is called on a mission. The duplicate pink record of membership should not be transferred back to his original ward during the summer months.
