NSHS Wrestlers fall North Sevier split a pair of basketball games over the weekend defeating Juab in Nephi but losing to a hot Bryce Valley team on Saturday. On Friday the North Sevier Wolves found themselves playing a slowed down spread out game of basketball in Nephi which at least had coach Craig Gladwell nervous for a while. This was the first time his team has faced a slowed down spread out offense and in the end they contained their composure and ran a very patience oriented offense. In the first half Juab played a man to man defense that allowed the faster North Sevier team chances for easy layups plus they waited for the good shot rather than letting the slowed down game of Juab to get their goats. Another first for Ihe Wolves was the half court trap staged by Juab. This did cause some turnovers but Gladwell stated that he was pleased with the way his team handled the pressure by adjusting. The final score was 50-4- 1 for the Wolves. Brandon Kiesel lead the team with 16 points with Corbin Partridge putting in 13 and Steven Christensen good for 10. North Sevier hit 49 percent of their shots from the field compared with 41 percent put in by Nephi. Juab shot 1 1 making only 1 while North Sevier shot three and sunk one. North SEvier was also a little hotter at the foul line hitting 1 1 of 17 attempts for 65 percent while Nephi was good for 8 of 19 attempts or 41 percent. North Sevier also commanded the boards with 30 rebounds to only 19 for Nephi. The Bryce Valley game on Saturday was a little different story. The Wolves dropped this game to the 1 Bryce Valley Team 59-57-- 3. Panic seemed to plague the Salina team as the game was close down the final stretch which caused some unnecessary fouls and turnovers on NOrth Seviers behalf. We are improving with this aspect of the game but we still have a lot to overcome, said Gladwell. Kiesel lead Salina once again in scoring with 17. Partridge put in 1 1 while J ustin Okerlund was good for 1 1 also. Foul shooting was a major difference in the game with Bryce Valley making 27 of 36 foul shots compared to only 14 of 21 for the Wolves. This was a good percentage of foul shots made for the team but Bryce Valley just went to the line a lot more than North Sevier. Personal fouls for the Wolves totaled 27 compared to only 14 for Bryce Valley. North Sevier shot 34 percent from the field and hit one of 9 attempts at three pointers. The Wolves will travel to Castle Dale to take on Emery this Friday and their 74" Shawn Bradly. said Merry Christmas, huh. Gladwell. He stated that the Wolves played well against Emery last year keeping their composure and concentrating on the rest of the team playing with Bradly. What do you do with a 7 4" player? Well, even the pros have trouble with Mark Eaton at 7 4" so we play him as best we can, even double teaming at times but you also have to play good basketball on the other hand, said Gladwell. Their next game will be after the holidays on January 4 at Richfield.
