In that box were plastic' brightlycolored inch-hig- h all 26 letters of the alphaletters bet. Attached to each letter was a - magnet Education North Sevier High School Students of Month iiL-- I procedure. She would display a letter and ask Kevin to name it. After a few of those drills, Kevin could recognize and name every letter in the alphabet. Kevin is only 19 months Courtney is a real achiever at anything she docs. She has held a 4.0 grade point average for the last five years. Courtney has also been selected several times by her teachers for Academic All American Scholar, which is a great honor for a student. Courtney has also been active in many sports, including soccer, softball, martial arts, where she presently holds a green belt. She has also played boys baseball where she played the positions of second baseman, shortstop, and pitcher. She also played basketball for the last four years. Courtney is on the starting for the girls Varsity Basketlineup ball team. She was also on the starting lineup on the girls Varsity Volleyball Team. She is active in church and civic functions, and enjoys spending time with her family. Her favorite thing to do is run. She has competed in many marathons and won many of them. After he thought Kevin had seen and heard enough, he would say: Kevin, give me a k. Soon Kevin was giving his Dad the letters he requested. Then Kevins mother, a teacher, showed the two males in her life how to He loves those red, yellow, blue, green and lavender letters as much as any toy he owns. Theres a lesson in that. This is a season for selecting gifts, and we should do it carefully. Do we buy only Barbie Dolls, Hot Wheels, GI Joe and stuffed toys items that may be discarded within a month? Or do we add an educational item that could give a child something to last a lifetime - like Kevins lesson from the plastic letters? - -- Meeting on finaciai aid for post-hig- h school education Parents Of all Seniors and Juniors at North Sevier High School are urged to attend a presentation on Financial Aid to help students with college and post high school educational expenses, according to Principal Timothy Smith. The meeting will be held Tuesday, January 31, 1989 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the North Sevier High School Auditorium. The meeting will be conducted by financial experts from Snow College. The student inputs information on his interests, expectations, financial status, etc., and the disk compiles this information - then lists for the student colleges meeting his or her requirements. Courtney Christensen Courtney Christensen, a Freshman at North Sevier High has been chosen Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Harve and Paula Christensen, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Christensen of Salina, and Mr. Melrose Atwood and the late Erma Allred Atwood, of Price, Utah. f'l Corbin Partridge is a Junior at North Sevier High School who maintains a 3.98 grade point average. He has been active in community, church and school activities. Corbin is defending two time state champion in Track; Quarterback in Football; starter in Basketball; and Academic Corbin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Partridge. All-Sta- te All-Stat- e. New program will teach be fun for area students; date changed Due to a scheduling conflict, the school board meeting at Salina Elementary School that was originally set for that date, will be changed to January 3, and will be held at the School District office, beginning at Noon. Those with concerns or question for the board are invited to attend. New copy machine for NS High Alecia Nielson Alecia Nielson is a Senior at North Sevier High. She is the daughter of Bryce and Janis Nielson, of Salina. Alecia has been on the Honor roll many times, received her Academic letter her Sophomore year. She enjoys school, especially science. She has won many awards in this area. She received 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Grand Champion in the State for Outstanding Science Exhibits. S he received a Junior Engifrom the Air Force. award neering She won a Naional Merit award in Science and was named All American Scholar. She was also a member of the type team for two years. Alecia attended Girls State this past summer and enjoyed the experience very much. She was named Whos Who American Students. Among Alecia is a member of the LDS Church and has held many positions. Currently she is 2nd Councilor in her Laurel Class. Alecia plans to attend Utah Valley Community College this fall in Provo. Physical fitness awards for Salina students ElementarySCHOOL AT Call Classifieds 529-783- 9 528-311- 1 North Sevier High School will be getting a new copy machine for its media center. Karren Glover and Doris Bastian, PTA officers for the North Sevier area, attended the December 8, District School Board meeting, and presented a proposal for the machines purchase. Mrs. Glover noted that the PTA has raised $1,400 toward the $2,800 purchase price of the Canon copy machine, and asked that the board match these funds. They told the group that the copier would be very beneficial to the students at NSHS. It would be located in the media center and be a coin operated machine at 10 cents per copy. The money from the copies would be used to pay the service agreement contracted for the copier. The $1,400 was approved by the Board.
