An additional request was made for home school by a patron at the Sevier School District Board Meeting December 8. Allen Birk had requested home school consideration for his children in 8th grade, sixth grade and second grades in South Sevier. Principal Hunt told the Board that the school has offered to help with the education of the children. There are no apparent feelings against the school system, but the parents prefer to teacher their children in a home school setting. The motion was passed to approve the request, however going on record of voicing concern and objections to parts of the home school program because home school students miss out on the benefits of the public school system. In other home school action, Boyd Keisel headed a discussion concerning the proposed home school resource specialist position. However, it was generally agreed that there is not enough accountability built into the proposal. things, forgetting failures and disappointments. Maybe thats not realistic, but your attitude (positive one, that is) really does help keep you young. A lot of younger people think folks beyond 55 are different. Theyre amazed if we recognize one of todays top forty songs, or understand that being cool is really being neat sad not a temperature reading. And when we tell even a bad joke they think its cute, especially if we have white hair and a lot of wrinkles, because they, think anyone over 55 isnt supposed to h have much of a sense of humor. Do the younger folks just patronize us sometimes? Perhaps, but there are times when it can be quite acceptable, such as when we are told how wonderful we look, how charming we are, and how young we act. Are they kidding? Like the politicians who promised they arent going to raise taxes, we really dont believe them, but we still like to hear it The other side of 55 isnt old. No one I know is going to get really old, especially not if we think young and keep involved with life. Get out and do your thing. Youre not old unless you want to be and think you are. Ron Nielsen, Administrator Richfield Care Center When I was 15, 1 thought old age began at 30. When I reached 30, 1 adjusted it to 40 or 45. When I hit 40 -- - well, you know the rest Now that Im on the other side of 55, Ive come to the conclusion that there are simply no old people, unless they think they are old. I know I dont intend to get old, and as I visit my choice friends in the Care Center and out, I dont know anyone who does. Oh, to be sure, there are younger people than me on this earth. My teenager and my grandchildren remind me of that often with all their energies and exuberance (that I also had when I was on the other side of 40). But thats okay. Myfriendsand I, on the other side of 55, have a great time doing our things that keep us young. I know we have a tendency to look back on the so called good old days and think how wonderful it used to be. But maybe thats because we remember mostly the good things and conveniently forget the bad because dwelling on past failures and disappointments is not very satisfying. And at the other side of 55, Ive found it best to remember and dwell each day on the good - Church sends $100,000 to Armenia Home schoolers asked to recom mend liason with District Board LDS The Church of Jesus Christ Saints has made an initial contribution to the relief of earthquake victims in Armenia. Colors influence the way you feel We have a monthly newspaper at the Care Center that many of you may see as you visit and take a copy at our entrance, or you may receive one in the mail. The article by our new Recreation Therapist, Marci Wyler, deals with the effects of color. For thousands of years, colors have been used as therapy by healers of every religious persuasion all over the world. In recent years, there has been much scientific research devoted to color therapy. In nearly all the writings about color and its effect, there is a basic agreement about what specific effect each color has. The red group is determined to be exciting and stimulating to the mind and emotions. It is the color of blood and is apt to arouse feelings of rage or disgust. It is a highly active color and used by healers to invigorate, stimulate and give energy to the body.People tend to speed up and eat faster in a red atmosphere. Red would be a useful color to be worn by athletes or sports enthusiasts for more vitality. The Yellow group denotes intellect and has many degrees of shade and int. One interesting shade is the color orange. Because of the addition of red to the color yellow, orange tends to simulate confidence, success and enhances learning. It decreases fears and doubts. Yellow is a color that can be used to stimulate the nervous system and brain activity, which is also useful for learning. Yellow or orange would be a good color to wear if you were required to take a test of some kind. The Green shades are considered the neutral, master color group. Green is definitely associated with healing. Nearly all the plants and herbs used by healers are from the green group Decorations in clinics and hospitals are constantly being changed to reflect the green group. Green is used to produce a peaceful, calming effect on the body. THe light shades of green are said to promote sympathy, altruism, and charity. The Blue group represents the varying forms and degrees of religious emotion, spirituality and love of form and ceremony. This is why purple was naturally chosen as the royal color in the olden days. Blue is a color that is beneficial for encouraging a deep healing sleep. There are other shades of light clear blue that are uplifting and promote morality. The browns are earth tones.
