Letters to the Editor Make Your Voice Heard to Protect Ogden Valley Would you like to see an expanded gravel mining operation in the Middle Fork Area? Proposed rezoning would result in a scarred area visible from Huntsville and the scenic highway. The scar, already visible from Pineview Reservoir, would appear even more prominent. The new S-2G zone would also allow residential lots as small as 1/3 acre if the County does not attach a Development Agreement to the rezoning. This would adversely affect groundwater and Pineview water quality. Zoning Petition #10-2001, submitted by Craig Cross, requests a rezone for 14.11 acres at 7400 E. 700 N. from AV-3 to S-2G. Copies of the proposal may be reviewed in the office of the Weber County Planning Commission at 2380 Washington Blvd., Ogden, prior to the public hearing on the issue. Please email or write to Weber County Commissioners now and attend the hearing on June 12, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. in the Weber County Commission Chambers, 2380 Washington Blvd., 1st Floor, Weber Center, Ogden. Commissioners numbers and e-mail addresses are: Camille Cain (399-8590, ccain@co.weber.ut.us); Glen Burton (399-8588, gburton@co.weber.ut.us); and Ken Bischoff (399-8590, kbischof@co.weber.ut.us). Pam Mitchell, Huntsville Homes Built on Ridge Tops are Visual Pollution The feature story about building a home off the electric grid was a mighty fine yarn (printed in the StandardExaminer), but I think the reporter missed the real story: Building homes on ridge tops or skylines should not be allowed. Just as we have laws to protect us from having to look at unsightly yards, junk cars, weeds and anything else deemed offensive, we need to protect our skylines from being polluted with things that just don’t fit. It’s sad enough to watch homes advance up the sides of our mountains. Building permits should not be issued for construction on ridge tops or skylines. When structures are erected on these places the only view left to enjoy is for people who live in them. ROAD CLOSURE cont. from page 1 Monahan. Violation of this closure is punishable by fine and/or imprisonment. “We ask all users to respect the temporary restrictions so that permanent closures are not necessary,” she said. The Forest Service will be assessing the recent damage and taking necessary DOG ATTACK cont. from page 1 often chased by dogs until they finally collapse with exhaustion. For the sake of wildlife and livestock, pen or tie up your dogs.” Mr. Fuller stated that the colt was killed only about 300 feet away from his home, and was valued at $1000. Kent Fuller surveys damage to livestock with neighbors and USDA Natural Resource agent. According to Wild Life Specialist Bruce Roberts, the new colt was chased and killed by domestic dogs. The roads will be re-opened once conditions dry out and the damage is repaired. “When off-road enthusiasts obey the laws and “tread lightly” impacts to the resources are greatly reduced,” Monahan said.
