Just visit <http://OgdenValleyMagazine.com> USDA Announces 2008 Sign-Up for Conservation Innovation Grants—Up to $20 Million Available Washington, DC- Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Chief Arlen Lancaster today announced the request for proposals for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) for fiscal year 2008. The CIG program is designed to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. “CIG enables NRCS to work with other public and private entities to accelerate transfer and adoption of promising technologies and conservation approaches to address some of the nation’s most pressing natural resource concerns,” said Lancaster. “CIG benefits agricultural producers by providing more options for environmental enhancement.” The Department of Agriculture’s NRCS administers CIG program. For fiscal year (FY) 2008, up to $20 million is available for the National CIG competition. Funds for single- or multi-year projects, not to exceed three years, will be awarded through a nationwide competitive grants process with applications accepted from all 50 States, the Caribbean Area (Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) and the Pacific Basin Area (Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) from all eligible non-federal government or nongovernment organizations or individuals, including federally recognized tribes. There are three CIG categories available in FY 2008: •Natural Resource Concerns Category up to $10 million available for proposals addressing one or more of the CIG natural resource concerns. This component was also offered in FY 2004, FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007 awards. •Technology Category - up to $5 million available for proposals addressing one or more of the CIG technology categories. This component was offered for the first time in FY 2006. •Chesapeake Bay Watershed Category up to $5 million available for proposals addressing one or more of the CIG natural resource concerns in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This component was also offered in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. For FY 2008, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation will be accepting and reviewing the applications for this category. The company boasts T1 service into the Valley with their access point at the top of Wolf Mountain ski lift. Ogden Valley Internet is co-owned and operated by Nicholas Kneipp, an eight year resident of the community. He is fully aware of the seasonal conditions in the Upper Ogden Valley. Nicholas was the installer and network technician with Ogden Valley Wireless, the last locally owned provider, a company that was recently sold to Digis. Ogden Valley Internet has its own computer service company, Sky Mountain Enterprise. With snow levels building this year, Kneipp states that his experience installing wireless high speed service at homes all around the Valley will ensure quality service. As with all Ogden Valley businesses, pride in customer support is the norm. Within the next six months, the company will add an additional tower to cover Ski Lake, Radford Hills, and homes within the North Fork area. Ogden Valley Internet believes that each must be involved with preserving the environment. That’s why the company has chosen to use solar power at their tower site; their service is structured with “Green” power in mind. Kneipp states, “To further our environmental efforts, Ogden Valley Internet utilizes a paperless system to setup customer accounts and to send out invoices. The service is centered on this paperless system where we encourage the use of electronic payment methods to further help our children’s future.” Ogden Valley Internet supports all internet needs including Gaming, VPN to the office, as well as VoIP phones, and personal IP Addresses. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Accepting Comments for DEIS The Forest Service, in cooperation with the State of Utah and Utah Bureau of Land Management (BLM), has prepared a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) to evaluate the suitability of 86 eligible river segments (840 miles) on the National Forests in Utah for recommendation for inclusion in the Wild and Scenic Rivers System, and to initiate the process for making recommendations to Congress. Portions of the National Forests extend into Colorado and Wyoming, and these areas are included in the study. The DEIS can be accessed on the web at <http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/rivers/> The Forest Service invites written comments on the proposed alternatives and the suitability of eligible river segments for designation as wild, scenic, or recreational rivers.
