The 1999 High School Track and Field Championships for the entire state of Utah were held at BYU on the fourteenth and fifteenth of May, 1999. Competitors arrived from everywhere, all hoping to return home with the coveted title of State Champions. Our own North Summit Braves, fresh from their Region title, burned with this desire as well. The fust race of the day was the 1600 meter femon final, where Mortenson placed ninth overall. Next up were the highjump finals, where TJ. Bates placed fifth. For the remainder of the day, the Braves strived to accomplish their goal of claiming the state title. Before they could dream too much, though, they had to pass the trial races to continue on to Saturday. Justin Hemingway and Devin Siddoway ran the 110 meter hurdles, where Justin moved on to the finals. TJ. Bates, Jed Casper, and Cody Staley ran in the 100 meter dash.
