The luncheon features awards for workplace safety in the categories of workers compensation insurance carriers, construction, general industry, small employers, public agen The Utah Labor Commission announced today the signing of a declaration by Governor Michael O. Leavitt which declared June, 1999, Workplace Safety Month in Utah and called upon Utah employers and employed to make workplace safety and the reduction of workplace accidents primary objectives for the purpose of improving the quality of life for all Utah residents. The Labor Commission has launched a major outreach campaign entitled Take Safety Seriously". Initial results of the campaign demonstrate that the Utah workforce is examining the issue of workplace safety with increased interest. There have been impressive results not only in the workplace, but the benefits have extended far beyond and have heightened safety awareness among funilics as well. In 1996, there were 80,392 reportable workplace injurid in the stale. This number declined by 5.3 percent in 1998 with 76,101 reportable injuries occurring. With the increase of approximately 68,000 employds within the state, these numbers become even more significant.
