Show r tt r 1998 TERLING JCHOLAR 10 Tabiona nominates eight Sterling Scholars i By Clifford Pratt, Tabiona High School student, and English Sterling Scholar nominee This year's seniors at Tabiona High School make up one of the biggest graduating classes in decades, and there are more Sterling Scholars representing Tabiona High this year than ever before. There will be eight talented students repre- senting Tabiona at the region Sterling Scholar competition on April 21 they are: Jesse Miller, son of Nancy Miller, will be competing in the Science category. Jesse is a National Honor Society member and an Eagle Scout. He was a class representative in the Health Occupation Students of America. He received an "A" in Advanced Human Biology and is currently enrolled in a college biology class. Melody Park, daughter of Robert and Renee Park, will be competing in the Speech category. As a ambassador, Melody has presented workshops, lectures and speeches in Utah, Montana, and Washington D.C.. She has also qualified for State Forensics in Impromptu and has lobbied for various projects at the State Capitol. She is also the President of Future Farmers of 4-- H America at Tabiona High. Clifford Pratt, son of Merrell and Virginia Pratt, will be competing in the English category. Clifford has received high marks In all district and college testing, reaching the district's highest percentiles. He has received several awards for submitting writings, editing and tests in the district Language Arts Fair. He is also an Eagle Scout. Jerry Rasmussen, son of Richard and Carol Rasmussen, will be competing in the Social Science category. Jerry placed first in the Region History Fair for the last three years, and has received excellent and superior ratinp at the State History Fair. He has traveled to Europe, Washington D.C. and throughout the western United States. He has also attended Close-Uthe Utah Rural Electric Association Leadership Conference (UREA) and Boys State, and serves as Tabiona High's student body historian. Sam Rhoades, son of Ervan and Jan Rhoades, will be competing in the General category. Sam has written a one-a- ct play that received 1st place at the district Language Arts Fair, has placed second at state Future Farmers of America in team judging, and has placed sixth in the district math contest. He has qualified for state drama p, in scene and one-aplay categories. Sam nifer has placed first for a vocal solo and is also an Eagle Scout. . . first, second and third for three separate Riley Roberts, son of John and Bonnie trios at the district Fine Arts Fair.
