I experienced just such a moment last week when for the first time I actually beheld the initials, PMS. Its not myth, I whispered to myself. I longed to reach out, to run my finger over the letters that someone had recently penned, a real person with those initials. I knew it had to be true, that someone, somewhere out there carried the blame for almost everything - every month of the year. Just awhile ago my neighbor called. After a few minutes of normal conversation she began to sob, and sputtered, Its PMS. Wow! Ive found that this PMS person can bring women to emotional heights that bystanders can only marvel at The comedian George Carlin performs a routine about PMS. It involves a women who is being interviewed by police after murdering her husband in cold blood. Crazy days ... crazy days, she flippantly says, popping her gum and twirling her fingers in her hair. Carlin explains that women and PMS can get away with anything even murder. I think its more a matter of not owning up. Women who scream at their children and say, Sorry kids its just PMS, need to remember that they are experiencing life at that moment, and the kids WERE REALLY BEING NAUGHTY! She neednt shrug it off as PMS. So things get a little intensified when hormones start everywhere. Women are generally too nice anyway. I think PMS is life's natural equalizer. Lets admit it girls - men wouldnt put up with what we do for 21 days and apologize when they get hot under the collar for the other seven. As a woman I care about everything and everybody - Im careful to love and nurture children, friends, family, (mine and his) animals (mine and strays) the environment and the child inside of me. It can get -- around and I want to smack my children, friends, family, (mine and his) animals (mine and strays). Perhaps I've given too much of myself away. Women just come this way, we just cant seem to help ourselves, but 1 wonder what life would be like without us. Birthday parties would be rare events. Owwwies would most certainly not be kissed and tenderly bandaged. Field trips would not be properly supervised. Life would be held together with safety pins and duct tape. For all the good we do I wish Woman Kind could have a grounded sense of entitlement to our, thoughts, our passions - to our lives, to be able to divest ourselves from the entanglements of others and obligations and experience pure freedom ... but I think we would find it pretty empty. So I guess well go on, giving all we have - feeling every moment of life and learning, and at the end when we're worrying about the great, great, grand kids and looking back on it all - that we will know that every moment of life (PMS or not) was worth living. -- Thomas and Monique Sticht of Vernal are the A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE SPONSORS proud parents of the First Baby bom in 1998 at case Adams Big "A" Auto Supply Big "A" Oil the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
