Following Cougar harvest objective h'irtin;' units and an increase in ii '.ck bag limit for the vnming waterfowl season were improved at an August 26 meeting of the Utah Wildlife Board. The board also approved a four-yea- r Furbearer Proclamation and rules for tho upcoming falconry season. Cougar Hunt As one way to help Utahs deer herds recover, the board approved Division of Wildlife Resources and P'Vponal Advisory Council (RAC) immendations that Utah's '.ignr management units be inariiiged by a combination of limited entry and harvest objective hunt strategies for the 1996-9- 7 Season. Harvest objective units are a r.vw cougar management strategy in Utah, designed to harvest a specific number of cougars on specific units. Once the determination has Iten made as to the number of cougars to harvest within a spi rifle unit, an unlimited amount cf permits to hunt in the unit may be Mild. The hunt season in that urr.t ends when the objective is met or when the end of the season arrives. The board approved a total of 46 cougar hunt units, divided into 15 harvest objective units and 30 limited entry units. The harvest objective unit quota totaled 275. A total of 605 permits was approved for the states 30 limited entry units. Eight hundred and seventy-tw- o limited entry permits were in the desired unit is available. This exchange may take place anytime during the cougar season. A ?.j exchange fee will be charged r.'.ul exchanges may only be made at Division offices.
