Never mind that the rules dont work or apply to a particular situation, or that local rules may even be in with the law. Shame on all of us. Shame cm us for forgetting about the individual student. This is not only an issue about Spencer, this is an issue about principle. For example, this fall two students who filed and ran for Freshman Student Body Office were required to withdraw because they lacked the necessary grade point average. School had long since lost meaning for them. Their choice to participate in a way that fit their natural abilities, ie., and inirapersonal kinesthetic intelligences, was forbidden because they lacked academic prowess; they did not fit the mold. Specifically, an individual may possess natural leadership, but he unable to excel or even perform minimally in math. Mr. Burton further stated that Spencer would also have to make up all missed football practices before he could play. About three years ago the city successfully applied for a Community Development Block Grant to purchase three parcels of land where the "old Phillips homes" were located on main street. The city went after the grant for the purpose of eliminating blight and promoting commercial development in the downtown area. The city tore down two of the three homes and put all three lots up for sale, Hancock explained. The buyers of one parcel kept the old home on the property which they remodeled into what is now the Lazy H Gift Gallery next door to the Uintah Basin Standard. One purchased Cellular the remaining two parcels for $15,000 ar each. Stringham says at this time Cellular One's future building plans for the property are unknown. Cellular One has offices located in the former Linmar building and a service center on the L & L comer in the old Phillips 66 station. "It just doesnt make sense for us to build now," Stringham slated. It was a good idea at the time, but times change." He said the company is doing their share to help maintain growth in the downtown area by utilizing two existing buildings which may have remained empty.
