Show Thursday, February 19, 1981 Cougars bombed again Union Coach Brad Monks has pretty much decided that the rest of the season will be essentially a basketball clinic for his young Cougars. Once a team reaches the 0--7 mark in region play there is not much left but to give some experience to the players who will make up the core of the rallying cry: Wait til next year! Union lost another home contest to the Morgan Trojans by a score last Thursday night. It was only the second region win for Morgan, both against the hapless Cougars. What happened in a game that Monks thought his team could win? The second quarter killed us," he explained, specifically, the last two minutes of the second quarter. After jumping off to a 3 first quarter lead, things looked good for the Cougars. Then came the second period which saw the Trojans outscore the Union team by a 22-- 9 margin. We only hit 2 for 12 in the second quarter, Said Monks. The second half blues kept the Cougars from seriously challenging Morgan in the latter part of the game. n The mental is all but inevitable from a team which has been blown out in nearly all of its region games. We played everybody, said The rebounding statistics have opponent dominated the Cougars in boards, pulling down 45 to only 30 for the Home team. We are going to stress rebounding 14 stressed that positioning and strength are often more important. It is these qualities which he will be trying to 74-5- 1 improve. for the rest of the season," insisted Monks. Whenever we get beaten by a large margin the rebounding margin is just as large. Monks said that the lack of wise shouldn't be such a determining factor in the rebounding weakness. He become a sore spot for the marhing staff. Once again the Uintah Basin Standard Steven Robb again led the Union team with 17 points. Acknowledging the spoiler rule, Monks hopes to catch Intermountain sleeping at their home thia Friday. We are going to try to throw a wrench in the works, he said. 74-5- 1 16-1- Monks.
