Show Thursday, February ( DUCHESNE SCHOOL MAYOR KIDNAPPED! Roosevelt Mayor Ralph Shields was last kidnapped Saturday and held for ransom at the Stewart's Convalescent Villa. Mary Bell guarded his honor and gladly accepted his ransom money which went to the Utah Heart Fund. The Saturday event raised over $800. Event coordinator Leora Hackford had set a goal of $300. Uintah Basin Standard 3 Uintah liasin Standard 19. 1981 PISTRIC? The Duchesne County Board of Education met at the District Office in Duchesne Thursday, Feb. 12. The following items were discussed andor action taken: Semester system Approval was given for Union high school to change to a semester schedule and credits for the upcoming school year enabling the school to utilize a teacher advisory system. Annexation approval Approval was given by the Board for Roosevelt City to annex two parcels of school-owneproperty (north portion of East elementary school site and 20 acres recently purchased by the Board south of Roosevelt in the area of the cemetery) into the city limits but the option of trading water shares for city hook-up- s was rejected. Tab ions school bids Approval was given to have a survey done on the Tabiona school site (bids are being sought from local engineering firms); the bid date for the Tabiona school building was postponed until the latter part of May to allow contractors more time with the plans and specifications in preparing their bids; also, the architects have been asked to study the feasibility of using the existing media center in connection with the new shop building (the new shop is planned to be separate from the main school building). Board meeting agenda The Board approved of an earlier cut-ofdate for items for board meeting agendas i Board meets every 2nd and 4th those Thursdays); desiring to be on meeting agenda and or submitting items for the agenda must do so prior to the last Friday before the scheduled meeting. This change will make it possible for the Superintendent to get agendas and related information to the Board far enough in advance of the meeting that its members will have lime to study the same. Task force In cooperation with the Duchesne Education Association, Classified Emand School ployees Associations Prinicpals Group, the Board will establish a Task Force comprised of a representative from each group, a member of the Board, the Superintendent and a lay citizen to study the District's budgetprograms and make recommendations to the Board with regards to budgetprogram cuts for the upcoming budget year. Mrs. Malnar resigns The Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Bennie Lynn Malnar with regret as Mrs. Malnar has been a dedicated board member. Mrs. Malnar cited the hardship created for her young family by her being away from them in her capacity as a board member; she feels she is unable to devote the amount of time necessary to be the type of board member she desires to be at this time. Attending the wedding of Billy Wall and Joan Biers Saturday in Provo, were Pete Wall, Mr. and Mrs. James Thacker, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Stringham, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Daniels and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Powell. Bud and Doris Moffit, Ijayton, visited with Bernard and Ruth Dastrup Sunday. Ruth and Jeanie Dastrup and children drove to Orem Friday and spent the night with their families. Many guests attended the wedding of Bruce Thacker and Lee Ann Lamb at the Provo Temple Feb. 7. They were honored at a luncheon at the Royal Inn at which 74 guests were present.
