PACKERS WON CONFER end of strike no nearer settlement than at commencement of trouble the chicago stockyards strike beems no nearer a settlement than it did the day the struggle began et torts of a committee composed of re tall butchers and grocers to bring about a conference between the pack ers and the strike leaders was of no avail the retailers committee was in conference with the committee depre benting the pad era on thursday and at the end of the meeting the follow ing statement was given out by the retailers we were courteously received by a committee representing the packers and were informed that considering all that had passed and present con dillons no good reason existed why any further conference with the strikers would be beneficial no statement was issued by the packers regarding the conference and they all refused to discuss the mattai further than to confirm the statement given out by the committee cheb the strike leaders were informed 0 the determination of the packers tc refuse to enter into further conferences with the unionists they began to form plans to force the hand ol 01 the legal department of the states government in an endeavor tc bring about a settlement
