LARGEST SCHOONER AFLOAT ine steel seven masted schooner thomas lawson has just had her trial trip off boston maine recently and it will be interesting to the marl mari time world to hear that this vessel the first of her kind ever known brov ed speedy and easy to handle it took civo tugboats to move the big schooner out to sea and the old quincy point inches in diameter throughout with pine topmasts eight feet long her overall length Is feet beam fifty feet her depth thirty four feet five inches and her cargo capac ity about 8 tons her displacement when loaded Is 11 tons load draught being twenty six and a halt half feet f bridge had to be torn down before she could get out of the river it was then seen that her sails a aich weigh eight een tons were hoisted by engines on her decks she spreads 43 square teet feet of canvas and her complete outfit in eluding awnings contains 83 square teet feet each ol 01 the seven steel masts Is teet feet high and thirty two sixteen men form the entire crew as six engines do the heavy work one of forty horse power will hoist the tile two five ton anchors T ie others of awen ty five horse horsepower power each will handle the sails and do stevedore work the schooner has cost hay fever is not to be sneezed at but it a ne sy thing to catch
