Show The National Enterprise, August 24, 1977 Page seven Realtors say new machine Utah Co. will revolutionize business i Century brokers in the Salt Lake valley have purchased a new computer system which they say estate business. According to Ross Broad-ben- t of Century, the system is costing each Century office $2,500 for the components and $300 in monthly maintenance payments. Designed by Compraisal Corp. of Utah and Western Teletype, the system could enable brokers to double their client capacity, Broadbent says. The machine will be equipped with ancillary equipment which can be transported to homes and connected to a telephone to provide a printout of market listings. Broadbent describes the unit, saying it is as large as an electric typewriter. Professed computer features include: a ten-yeinvestment analysis program, calculating buyers abilities to meet closing costs and mortgage payments. a memory bank which stores a buyers specifications until a home meeting those requirements is available. three different lists: one of homes handles by Century brokers and two printed The system will be on display at the Utah State Fair, and Broadbent says Century may offer it to other real estate firms if it proves successful. the real could revolutionize 5 i I ! - i Estate by the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. the ability to calculate, 21 Real ar within three percent, a Homes probable sale price. A.K. Utah Properties, Inc., owner of Lindbergh Plaza at the Salt Lake International Center, hopes to prove the economic value of its new geothermal heating system with money from an Environmental Research and Development Administration (ERDA) grant. A.K. has applied for a $125,000 grant to monitor energy consumption at the Lindbergh, where well water from underground pools is pumped through a heat exchanger and used in heating and cooling systems in the building. The system has been in use two weeks. The $75,000 pumping and ventilation system should save 50 percent of normal air conditioning costs and 75 percent of heating costs, the proposal says. A.K.s system, developed by Terra Tck, Inc., is a prime target for the study since the building is less than all-elect- Equity Oils earnings up Equity Oil reported higher net earnings for the second quarter and first six months last week. The company said it earned $1,144,223 or 39 cents a share on revenues of $2,649,700 for the three months ended June 30. This compares with last years second quarter earnings of $868,073 or 29 cents a share on $2,271,050 in total revenues. For the first half, Equity reported net at $2,149,298 or 75 cents per share on revenues of $5,331,031 in 1977. J.P. Koch would be responsible for interpreting the Terra Tek study. He would publish findings so geothermal systems could become desirable and feasible for other structures built where underground pools are prevalent. The proposal adds the study could determine that nonculinary, low temperature geothermal water, tapped from the reservoir beneath the International Center, will reduce or replace the 13-ac- re consumption of electrical power used at Lindbergh. Three wells have been drilled to obtain water from the geothermal pools, and water temperatures range from 60 degrees at shallow wells to 83 degrees at a depth. The BLM area consists of 30,000 acres. In my personal view, the earlier something is done to try to settle the title issue arc the result of seepage water flowing into the Great Salt Lake. One-thir- d of all water in the lake is supplied by underground seepage, the proposal says. The Lindbergh uses 64 degree water drawn from 200 feet below ground level. Water from the wheel passes through an electronic water treatment unit to prevent scaling (chemical depositing on equipment) and is then sent to a heat exchanger, where the air is either heated or cooled for the ventilation system. Should the study verify Terra Tck and A.K. claims, the geothermal system will be offered to developers who build at the International Center. ERDAs response to the proposal is expected by Sept. 1. the better, said Paul Howard, state director for the BLM. Howard explained no one is pumping on the lake now, but if someone did try to do so, the issue might come to a head much sooner. As it is, the situation could remain as it is for a year or two before a decision is reached, he said. Mountain Fuel attorney George Peppinger said his company did not plan to take any action at present and would probably wait until the issue is settled between the state and federal We Lease All Makes & Models The "honest" one.
