Show I Lakeside Review, Wednesday, April 15, 1987 Hill team captures title The Hill Air Force Base Junior Jazz seventh and eighth grade team captured the state tournament title with a 8 vicotry over Wasatch, of Heber City. In the seventh and eighth grade division over 500 teams from Utah and Southern Idaho participated. Richie Playford, David Hernandez, and Brian Schofield were the keys to the offensive effort. On offense Weston Fisher played his best game of the season as he grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 15 points. Brain Schofield hit 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assits. Point guard, Bryce Culbranson effectively ran the offensive and also hit 10 points. In the semi final game to set up the state championship Hill Air Force Base defeated Nephi Brian Schofield was the top scorer in that game with 26 points and a solid all round game. Tim Stokes added 12 and David Hernandez tossed in nine more to lead the scoring. Defensively Tate Throndson, Brian West, Shane Burke all playe key roles. Weve had him to a physical therapist and well take him back on Thursday to see if hes ready to throw on Friday (against Bonneville). If hes not then well get a chance to see what some of the other kids can do. This may wind up helping us as the season progresses, Thompson said. Backing up Roberts at catcher will be Todd Mayes, who also may see action in the outfield. The Lancers were scheduled to open at Bonneville and then host Weber in the second round of may step into the starting rotation if Vigils arm doesnt respond to therapy.
