At a recent session of the Good Grief program Myers offered participants a chart to help them analyze their holiday traditions in order to make the holidays meaningful under difficult circumstances. Down one side of the paper persons are asked to list each of their usual Christmas activities. Across the top are a list of questions such as would Christmas be Christmas without this? is it done out of habit, free choice, or obligation? or do you like doing self-hel- it? Each tradition can then be an- alyzed and adapted if necessary. The chart and a worksheet on handling the holidays are available at the Myers Mortuaries free of charge. A family with small children would have different consider- ations for holiday traditions for the season than would an elderly person but all can benefit from reviewing.
