Show Millard County Chronicle Progress Mav in 1990 PaaeS COMMUNITY EVENTS Folk art exhibit features works of Oak City resident Carol Nixon director Utah Arts Council announces that a new Utah Arts Council exhibit “Save It for a Rainy Day: Folk Art from Rural Utah" includes the works of Oak City resident M J Alldredge Alldredge welds discarded tools nails and other metal scraps into sculptures of rural life an paints them in lively colors All of the materials in the exhibit have been recycled from used or remnant materials ranging from old tools adapted for use in wood sculpting to the fabric scraps used for As the title suggests exhibit artists share a belief in saving materials for future use in using time wisely and in being thrifty and innovative in their daily lives Carol Edison folk arts coordinator for the Utah Arts Council curated the exhibit “Life in the frontier West required initiative and ingenuity she said “People had to look to themselves and to local resources to satisfy their needs Today this tradition of is still strong among rural Utahans and is most evident in their folk arts" The exhibit housed at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Art in Salt Lake’s Liberty Park will be open Fri- -
