This is a special yearly New Year’s event for the Robinsons former Hurricane residents They also visited in St George with friends there They returned home January 2 On Dec 29 a party was held to honor Garn and Judy Turner and their children Travis Amber Susie Annie Laurie and Gregory The Turners left the next day for St George where Gam is employed We will surely miss this fine family They have been an asset to our community working diligently for the betterment of community and church We will remember you and our loss of you being here But St George is the recipient of your friendly Pleasant Grove had a wonderful visit with his mother Verl Christensen for New Years and the weekend They also visited brother Paul his wife Peggy and their children The Flowell Ward has a new Relief Society Presidency: Diana Fuller was sustained as the President and she chose as her counselors Karen Wardle and Alice Sorenson who were also sustained Those released with a vote of thanks were President Shirley Allen and her counselors Carma Swallow and Diana Fuller Ruth Allen received a telephone call New Year’s Day telling her she was a great grandmother to a new little boy born Dec 31 one half minute before the new year began His parents are Ruth’s grandson Kenneth Hurd and his wife Christy of Orem Little Tyler Allen Hurd weighed in at 8 lbs 4 oz and was 21 inches long He was born at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo are Royal and Clarice Grandparents Hurd of Orem His sister is Amber and big brother is Casey Royal and Clarice stopped by January 2 to say “Hi” to mother Ruth on their way home from St George and to take their child Michelle home Mrs Clem (Lora) Utley hae done quite a bit of visiting with their grandchildren Sam Jonathan Tiffany and David when the children were in their home for several days grandparents’ while their parents Sam and JoAnn Utley were out of town Clem and Lora also had their little grandson Kasey while his parents Tony and Kristy Utley were out of town on a short trip Dean and Shirley Allen spent the New Year’s weekend with their son and Danny and LaVon Allen and children in Elberta This was a post Chirstmas party Terry Baldwin and Nada Fillmore Melville The Terrys had gone to Provo on Saturday to be in attendance when their nephew Jeremy Daley was baptized and confirmed a member of the LDS church by his father Mark Daley His mother is Angela Daley her dear grandVirgie appreciates children taking time to call on her The snow was starting to come so the Baldwins felt they must hurry on to their Cedar City home of being soldier of the year for the last quarter of 1987 Marlow Anderson is in Mountain View Hospital in Payson We wish him a speedy recovery is in the Delta Sue Anderson Hope Hospital She has pneumonia she soon gets back on her feet Alice Christensen and daughter Tiffany have spent about three weeks at home Alice has had pneumonia too but is feeling a lot better now and is about ready to go back to Orem and her work We will sure miss them both Alice says it will be about like moving away from home again Stephen and Evelyn Bowen spent Christmas with her parents Ralph and It was nice to have Eda Christensen Last year they spent them here Christmas in Louisiana with his folks Mark and Melodee Maggos from Godfrey IL spent ten days during the Christmas holidays with her parents Lyman and Sarah Condie was rushed to the Burn Center in Salt Lake by ambulance last week after an accident at home when he pulled an electric frying pan of grease over on himself We hope he will be able to come home soon David Remkes son of Carl and Mary Remkes recently graduated from the Naval Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes Illinois On January 8 he for further moved to Tennessee training Debbie Askwith Erickson and five children moved to Salt Lake last week to join her husband Carl who is employed there We will miss Debbie and her children Becky and David O’Neil flew down from Seattle to spend the wife Sheryl and their children of Orem came to Fillmore on Sunday Jan 3 and spend the day On Dec 28 Murray and Berna Davies drove to Salt Lake City where they attended a temple wedding of a friend Ernest Gene Ellsworth and his bride of Twin Falls ID Ernest was serving a mission on Guam the same time Murray and Berna were there as missionaries They became close friends and have kept in touch While at the wedding the Davies’ also renewed acquaintances of other friends they acquired while serving in the Guam mission Due to deep snow and unsafe road conditions Jim and June Smith reluctantly cancelled plans to spend with members Christmas of their family They spent a quiet white Christmas at home but as New Year’s Day came closer the tempo sped up as family members began arriving bringing There is nothing like the joys of winter Last week we froze now this week everybody is stuck We haven’t had this much snow here for a day or two One good thing about it we exercise or stay home and Cluff Talbot grandparents went up for the occasion also are the Toni and Sloane Curtis parents of a new little son Michael Ferrell He was born at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo Toni will stay a few days with Curtis’ mother in Provo for a little TLC before returning home Joe Morris is in the hospital in Delta We send our best wishes to him and his family and Russell and Leslie Talbot children Branden and Megan were in Salt Lake for Phil Evans’ open house David and Sheila Curtis hosted a fun New Years Eve Party at their home Attending the festive event were Sam and Margene Stevens Ron and flew to Hawaii to spend the holidays Among other things while there they went on a helicopter sightseeing tour and a trip out in the ocean whale watching Whales go to the warm tropical waters to have their young The boat had underwater sound equipment so they coul hear the mother whales talking with the babies Sarah and Darlene Western spent the holidays wih their sister Lieuwen Boyd and her family in Washington DC They also spent some time with an aunt Ardic Brady in Salt Lake City Clyde and Carolyn Stevens and Carl and Beryl Hardy were in St George golfing last week Beryl Hardy has spent quite a bit of time recently with her mother She fell and broke her wrist and has received medical attention in Payson and Beryl play basketball at SUSC where he is a freshman Jill is the daughter of the late Carl and Maurine Wilcken of Fillmore Jill and family visited her Aunt LaVoy Martin and husband Max in Fillmore also before going on to northern Utah to visit her sisters Suzanne Hadfield of Lehi and LayLynn Ash of Brigham Cit£ I with her daughter and husband Diana and Frank Allred and their family She and Diana had a $reat time shopping visiting eating and visiting Temple Square to see the fabulous display of lights and oh how Arthella loved spending a lovely family Christmas Day with her grandchildren On Dec 26 Arthella left Salt Lake City and drove to Fillmore stopping only long enough to check her house and pick up her mail then going on to New Castle UT to the home of her daughter and her husband Carma and George Beckham and their family On Sunday she attended church with her daughter’s family to hear her grandson Glen Beckham report on the mission he served in Wisconsin MO Arthella came home on Monday Dec 28 just in time to receive a telephone call from her brother Lloyd Miller of Colton OR The call was of tragic news which ended her Christmas holiday of fun and good cheer with a sour note Lloyd’s son who is the father of eight children drove to town to pick up his wife at work when they returned home their two story house was engulfed with flames and black smoke One son who had made it to the basement and another son who climbed to the roof were rescued unhurt but five other children who were asleep in their upstairs bedrooms were lost in the fire Another son escaped by being away from home Arthella’s life is saddened by this tragic loss of her dearly loved nieces and nephews Mary Lynn Rowley spent the long Christmas weekend with parents Ray and Gwen David Cathy and little Cassandra came Christmas Day for overnight visit Dan and Peggy joined them for visiting and exchange of gifts Gwen returned with Mary Lynn Sunday night to join her sister in Salt Lake for a flight to Arizona to participate in the wedding of their nephew Kevin Sondrup and Leigh Ann Jensen in the Mesa Temple on Tuesday Dec 29 The reception in a Tempe Stake House was a winter wonderland 2 dozen pine trees sparkling with miniature lights in the foyer and hall was part of the scene A large mirrored ball suspended from the ceiling with a spotlight on it like snowflakes shadows reflected around the hall Red covers on the round tables with miniature sleighs filled with tiny gifts and a candle were centerpieces A video was made so we 3 sisters enjoyed reliving the day of preparing the hall and the wedding festivities We also went into Phoenix and witnessed the colorful spectacular Fiesta Bowl parade Gwen returned home late New Year’s Day has helped her at home in Holden Diane and Courtney Finlinson have been in Salt Lake City recently on business Visiting with Gcrtha Bishop is her daughter from Colorado Larry Nelson Carl and Beryl Hardy were up north recently visiting the Norvel Andersons were fellow misThe Andersons
