That's because it's a situation that happens all too often, and is frequentty ignored or not openly talked about. It's sexual assault, and it's a huge problem in America today. College campuses are for numerous notorious sexual offenses, but reported out of fear, and embarrassment, many sexual assaults go unreported. FLS Quit Smoking for Free The Wellness Center is excited to be able to bring the Dixie College faculty, staff, and students a program to assist them in quitting smoking. International Helps Students c i i t i 1 t I 1 ( I ( ( ( ( Improve Their English Skills By last Friday, Joe Peterson, Dean of Arts, Chelsea VanNoy aeslenchotmail. com International Students attending Dixie College went to bed on Dec. 31, 1998 as part of America West Language Institute (AWLI). On Jan. 1, 1999 the same students woke up as members of International. dosed down and FLS International opened on Dixie College Campus. The International Student Advisor for FLS, Marianne Studebaker said the FLS program is to help International students prepare for college by improving their English skills. These students come to Dixie College already knowing English, but needing to improve their English capabiliFLS AWLI ties. FLS students can be involved with the program anytime between six months to a year, or until they are at a level to take regular college classes. At the Board of Trustee's meeting Letters & Sciences said Dixie College anticipates a larger enrollment of International students on campus. FLS travels overseas to recruit students for this program. Bill Fowler, V.R of Student Services said International students have attended Dixie College in the past. They enjoyed the area of St. George and Dixie College and passed word along to other International students. Max Rose, V.R of Academics and Students Affairs said FLS predicted Dixie College would be an appealing place to build up a program for International students. Rose said, "Parents in Asia feel safe about Utah for their stu- dents." Many foreigners perceive the Unit- ed States as a dangerous place. St. George is considered a safe place with many activities to participate in. President Robert Huddleston said Dixie College needs diversity on campus, and the FLS program is one way to do it.
