Show LETTER FROM DENMARK p ,ar Mr. Kclitor: X few linos from this part of tho orW way perhaps he of some interest , , you and the many readers of your v iluable paper, also to my many friend ii Castledale and Emery county in connection con-nection with the twelve missionaries' mitside mv--elf that ("astli'dale has in ihe mission field in the different parts ,,f the world. I would like to send hem each a letter, as well as my many j friends, but my time will not permit m to do it as 1 am busy every day attending to my duties, therefore I take ihe privilege.Mr. Johnson to send you a few lines with permission to have it published in the Progress, in order that my fellow missionaries and friends may know what we are doinR in this part of the Lord's vineyard and that I am still on deck in the northern part of Denmark, Den-mark, and had the pleasure the last five days of having near me my dear friend and neighbor Oluf J. Andersen who is laboring as translator and editor for the Scandinavian Star in the capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen. That city is located in the southern part of Denmark a land with 2, 725.000 inhabitants and Copenhagen has 'of that number 540,000 inhabitants according to the census of 1910. While Bro. Andersen was here we held some excellent good meetings. List Sunday evening we had nearly every seat occupied, one of the largest meetings held outside the reg-u'ar reg-u'ar conference meetings which is held s.mi annuallv. On Tuesday we went north to Bronderslev, sixteen miles, where we held a meeting in the evening which was fairly well attended. Bro. Andersen is in connection with Pres. Andrew Jensen of the Scandinavian mission performing a good mission. According to the statistical report of 1910 there were added to the church by baptism 433 souls which includes Denmark Den-mark and Norway. Yeiterday, the 23d, Bro. Andersen left for Aarhus where he will also spend a few days before returning re-turning to Copenhagen. We have Bro. Erastus P. Rismussen also from Castledale, who is laboring in the city of Esbjerg, located on the coast on the southwest corner of Denmark Den-mark with 16,000 inhabitants. He is also performing a good mission. The city of Aalborg has about 33,000 inhabitants, only three cities larger in Denmark and-those are -Copenhagen, SO, 000; Aarhus, 56,003 and Odense with 40,000 inhabitants. And this is the city where our honorable Pres. Antone H. Lund was born aud where he received tie gospel as a young boy, and many bivi come from here sinci ta Utih, who have comfortable homes today in Utah on account of receiving the gospel or Mormonism as generally called. If they had not received the principles of Mormonism Mor-monism they would still hive been in this country and shared the poverty tfcat most of the people here have to contend with, an it is either rich or poor people who live in this country. We have, at present, only sixteen elders who are laboring in this conference, confer-ence, but all energetic missionaries who are trying to spread light and truth among the people at their own expense. It costs each Elder, on an average, for living,' tracts and books they cive away $50 per year besides their ticket they have to pay for in getting get-ting to their field of labor, so you see the question is not what they make, luc it is a question, what will it cost a Mormon missionary when he accepts a ! cill to go on a mission? Can I do it? ! Th'jre were thirty-nine souls added to tie church in this conference for 1910, m l since January 1, 1911 we have bap-1 bap-1 lised nine persons and have good prospects pros-pects for more in the near future as we bave many investigators, and one meetings meet-ings are always well attended every Sunday evening, and I have noticed tnat many, when once they come to our 'neeting, they generally cone back to listen once more to those unlearned Mormon elders, who have been willing toome to their fatherland and proclaim an unpopular religion like ours at their .'wn expense. Who will', io this, out of 'he many different religious demonins - ! ;ll 'ns? None except the Mnrm mslandbe- j 'cause we have the truth to proclaim to ' the people. : We have had a very mild winter so t far, rain most of the time, so none have suffered of cold, but lots of men without with-out employment. : With kind ' regards to yourself, and family and all my friends in Castle'dale, wishing you all success, and many thanks for your welcome paper, which I have received of late regular-once a i Week. It is appreciated very much. '. Very respectively, j HiciiAiii) C. Miller. J Would appreciate a letter from any friei.d, and so do all the elders. j |
