Show CREEN RIVER PEOPLE PETITION LEGISLATURE Following is the text of a petition to the legislature for a change in the present laws relating to the voting in the irrigation district at Green River and is aimed at the indiscriminate voting vot-ing of residents and non-residents alike on issues that mean much to the bonafide residents in the district. "We. the undersign :d resident land owners of the Green River irrigation district, in the county of Emery and state of Utah, would respectfully petition peti-tion that the Utah state irrigation district law be amended, or at least part of section 4 of said law, wherein it provides that each land owner shall h. ive one vote for each acre of land owned by him in the district. This should be changed to conform to the Cjlorado irrigation district law, which provides that each resident land owner shall have a representative vote at each election, and non-resident land oA-ners shall, if they own forty acres of land or more within the district, have one vote. "The necessity of this change is great on account of the fact that under ine present law non-resident land owners, own-ers, as in this district, can let their land lay and grow in weeds and vet at the election send a representative to vote the acreage and control the affairs af-fairs of the district to the detriment of the les-dents of the district, who are doing the development of the land i. i the district." |
