As per published call the Democratic county convention met at Castledale on Monday the 17th, and was called to order or-der at the appointed hour by B. F. Luke, chairman. By motion J. W. Nixon was made temporary chairman and E. W. Fox secretary. The usual committees were appointed on credentials, platform and resolutions, and order of business, being one delegate from each precinct represented. A recess re-cess was taken until 2 o'clock p. m. to give the committees time to prepare their reports and for dinner. After a good dinner at the Anderson House by the courtesy of the Castledale delegation the meeting was again called to order at the appointed hour. The credentials committee reported delegations dele-gations from the following precincts: Huntington, Orangeville, Clawson, Ferron, Fer-ron, and Emery represented by proxy. The report was accepted and the delegates dele-gates present authorized to vote the full strength of their delegations. The order of business committee reported the usual proceedure and recommended that the temporary organization be made permanent, which was done. The platform plat-form as reported by the committee was accepted and appears in full in another column of this paper. The nominations were made in the the regular way, that is, by each precinct pre-cinct announcing its vote as called upon. For the four-year term as county commissioner E. L. Geary, J. B. Crawford Craw-ford and Issac Allred were nonimated. The vote gave J. B. Crawford a ma- ! jority of all votes cast and he was made the unanimous choice of the convention by acclamation. For the t.vo-year term E. L. Geary , was nominated by acclamation, i Carl Berg of Castledale made a clean sweep for treasurer and carried off the j nonimation by acclamation, j For sheriff Mart Jensen and Geo. ' Sitterud were nonimated. Sitterud won out on the ballot and his nonimation ! was made unanimous. ! For the office of clerk no one had aj Candidate and after considering the matter it was decided to leave the selection of a candidate to the county central committee, with the understanding understand-ing that the selection should be rrlade on the recommendation of one of the precincts not represented. For recorder no candidate appeared and the matter was passed up to the committee as in the case of the clerk. I Wm. Howard received the nonimation j for attorney by acclamation. j For surveyor Ira R. Browking re-! ceived the unanimous vote of the con- vention by acclamation. As Emery had not yet been recognized ; by a nomination she claimed the place j of assessor and nominated Isaac Allred for the position. It was carried by i acclamation. i For superintendent Nephi L. Williams ; was the only candidate and received the . unanimous vote of the convention. Protests didn't seem to do any good when it come to the office of Repre- : sentative and J. W. Nixon was nomi- ; nated without the consent of himself or , his wife, whom he seemed to think ; would object to the nomination. ! As in the case of Nixon protests did j not avail for C. E. Larsen and he was 1 made county chairman whether he : would or not. He accepted however, ; when he found that there was nothing . else to do, and promised to make this . campaign a lively one. Nephi L. Williams was re-elected as : secretary of the committee. ; A vote of thanks was proposed by C. ; E. Larsen to B. F. Luke for the able j wav in which he has fulfilled the duties ; of the office of county chairman for the . past six years. It carried with a cheer, j By motion the nomination of Pres. L. P. Oveson for state senator was en-; dorsed by the convention. This concluding the business the con- j vention adjourned. |
