Show COUNTY CANDIDATES NAMED Both Republicans and Democrats Name Their Choice for the County Officers - Democrats Have Places Yet to Fill REPUBLICAN COUNTY TICKET Represetative: Wm. J. Seely, of Castledale. Four Year Term Commissioner: L. P. Larsen, Cleveland. Two Year Term Commissioner: L. W. Peterson, Emery Treasurer: O. Curtis, Orangeville Surveyor: David Wood, Huntington Assessor: J. H. Killp ick, Huntington Superintendent: B. J. Peacock, Jr., Emery With an attendance of 48 delegates of the 52 entitled to seats as per the call the republican nominating convention conven-tion nominated the above ticket last Saturday. Most of the candidates were named by acclamation and in all others the choice was made unanimous. There was little wire-pulling as nearly all the delegates came with a clear idea as to what they were going to do of course they did not all succeed but when they did not they threw their support to the winner with the loyalty always apparent in a republican convention. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Henry Thompson at the appointed hour. By motion George M. Miller was make temporary chairman and E. J. Cook of Green River secretary By motion a committee on credentials, one on order of business, and one on platform and resolutions were appointed to consist of one member from each precinct to be selected by the precinct , chairman. When these committees were appointed a recess was taken until j one o'clock p. m. Wm. J. Seely, as J i chairman of tie Castledale delegation, invited all delegates to take part in a luncheon prepared for them by the Relief Re-lief Society. The invitation was accepted The committees got busy &t once and had their reports ready before the luncheon. lunch-eon. The ladies more than kept up their reputation for good cooking by the way they served the delegates and they received many flattering compliments as well as a voluntary contribution from the visitors of $19.65. The afternoon session found the delegates in their seats at the appointed hour. j The committee on credentials reported report-ed the presence of forty-eight delegates as mentioned above. The votes on the nominees were taken ! . by precincts, the chairman of each dele- j gation announcing the vote of the dele-. gation. The nomination for sheriff came first, Henry Thompson and H. S. j Larsen being nominated for the place. The vote gave Thompson a good ma- i jority and by motion of Larsen the nomination was made unanimous. A. G. Jewkes, Jr. for recorder; U. E. Curtis for attorney; and J. H. Killpack I for assessor to succeed himself were all j made by acclamation there being a unanimous sentiment for them in the convention. tor the four year term as commis-s commis-s oner L. P. Peterson of Emery was unan- imouslv nominated for the two year term. For treasurer there were three nomi- ; nations: Edw. G. Geary of Huntington ' Clyde Nelson of Ferron ana O. Sorenson, ' Jr. of Castledale. The first ballot stood Sorenson 23, Nelson 14 and Geary 11'. ; No nomination being made another j ballot was taken which resulted in two j of Nelson's votes going to Sorenson j which gave him a majority and the ; nomination. By motion the choice was made unanimous. i For surveyor David Wood was the unanimous choice of the delegates as a candidate to succeed himself, i For superintendent of public instruction instruc-tion B. J. Peacock, Jr., ;was named, j Before the vote was taken Mr. Peacock took the floor and briefly stated that he had not been seeking the office and had made no preparation forjt, but that if; it was the wish of the convention that ; he should have the place he would accept the nomination and at once begin the campaign work and the necessary pre-; (Continued on last page.) ! It seemed that the convention had by mutual consent left 'this to Wm. J. Seely and when he was ! nominated the house accepted it with a show of enthusiasm that showed plainly j the popularity of Mr. Seely and the I zealous workers he is going to have in the campaign. His nomination was .unanimous by accla matim. I The excellent work done in the past as county chairman and secretary by Henry Thompson and V. A. Killpack j was endorsed by re-electing them to the ' same positions. Thompson tried to ex- cuse himself on the grounds that he did : not have the time to attend to it, but j he was assured that his time would not I be all taken up by the duties of the ; sheriff's office and that he could attend j to it in the intervals of catching erim- inals and attending court. By motion the county central committee com-mittee was given authority to fill vacancies should any occur in the ticket before the date of the election. A vote of thanks was tendered the Castledale delegation, the Relief Society and the town in general for the court-tsi"3 court-tsi"3 extended to the delegates. By motion each member of the convention con-vention was made a committee of one to see that the ticket was elected without with-out the loss of a man. |
