FOR PROHIBITION Both Democrats and Republicans Instruct Delegates to Their State Conventions, to Insist on a Prohibition Plank C09D ATTENDANCE AT REPUBLICAN CONVENTION There was a large attendance at the republican convention Tuesday, nearly all precincts being represented, and many of them by full delegations. j The meeting was called to order at the appointed hour by Chairman Thomp-1 son. By motion of Adolph Axelson j Geo. M. Miller was made temporary ! chairman. In taking the chair Mr. ! Miller expressed his pleasure at being ; called to preside over the delegations ; of a representative body of the repub-! licans of Emery county such as was : here assembled. He also expressed the confidence of the party in its leaders and its coming success at the polls. H. W. Curtis was made temporary secretary secre-tary and read the call for the convention Committees consisting of one delegate from each princinct were appointed on order of business, credentials and platform plat-form and resolutions. A short recess was taken. The credentials committee reported delegations from the following: Green River, Cleveland, Huntington, Castledale, Orangeville and Ferron, several of them being represented by full delegations. The temporary organization organ-ization was made permanent by recommendation of the committee on order of business. The committee on ' resolutions and platform recommended j that the matter be put off until the regular nominating convention which was done. Mills, Desert Lake Alternates T. W. Dyches, Castledale L. W. Peterson, Emery J. E. Ward, Cleveland Christian Nielsen, Huntington U. E. Curtis, Orangeville J. S. Moffitt, Castledale By the motion of Wm. J. Seely the delegates were instructed to use their best efforts to get a prohibition plank inserted in the state platform. This was the only way they were instructed. A meeting of the county central committee com-mittee was held immediately after the meeting and the time for holding the county nominating convention set for Saturday, October 15, 191,0, The call appears in another column.' |
