A COLD BLOODED MURDER man shot in the back of the head as he was read ng a paper the assassination of john 11 fox by deputy sheriff joseph johnson and an attempt at lynching frustrated by sheriff dick davis and posse and later a race between the sheriff and posse with the prisoner for a special train and an angry and excited mob of 2 people bent on vengeance were the wild scenes enacted in trinidad colo saturday morning the assassination of fox was the most cold blooded mur der ever committed in las animas county fox was standing at a desk in the lobby of the post postoffice office reading a newspaper with his back to the door johnson entered six shooter in hand and without the least warning sneaked up behind fox and fired the bullet entered behind the left ear and came out of the forehead passing through a glass door into the elevator lobby grazing the head of a EL man standing in the alei elevator ator fox fell backwards dead and johnson coolly walking from the post postoffice office started toward the coun ty jail where he was arrested by an other deputy A mob of about 2 of the citizens quickly formed but the sheriff got johnson onto a special train and took him cut out of town
