| Show FROM THE SOUTHERN STATES MISSION FIELD anrthur W nn dersen writes of his missionary experience elder arthur W andersen of emery who is now filling a mission in the southern states writes us a letter from winterville Wint erville pitt county north carolina as follows last july we left salt lake city en route to atlanta ga ahn h was then headquarters ot the South states mission we were four in which made it a pleasant trip at st louis we staled a short time to see what the world from at lanta elder Pett emery and I 1 were sent to N whore the conference president assifi ed w our fields of labor I 1 was beet to the west ern part of north carolina to labor as a traveling elder with J ona I 1 am enjoying missionary life very much it is a grand school of exper lence of course it is not a desirable position for those who are seeking worldly honor and the praise of men some honet hearted people have ex tended their sympathy sm pathy toward us fear ing that we would get disappointed and finall become discourager d in malting proselytes but somehow mormon elders are not made up that way generally speaking king the people of north carolina are hospitable hospi tible wo anve not suffered much in without purse or script abo spirit of is ast ang away yet its weaker spirits of hatred ind malice are constantly felt by the elders it is a remarkable fact that where ho people are energetic workers bously we find the most opposition chose people who to be true christans are the first ones to bare falbe witness paul wrote to titus about a certain class of people who he said professed to enow god but in works they denied aim since our spring conference held at hampstead four milea from thi ocean elder crow ther of colorado and 1 have been laboring in pitt county in the eastern part of this state re we hare been treated ver kindly school hous es ad private homes are constantly being thrown en to and today we succeeded in getting permission to preach in a church house something rare the work of the lord is pro gres log slowly but surely in this pait of the the smoot investigation has been be means of reviving prejudice in the minds of people but with the fair mind ed class it has only kukea mormonism up the hill though the farmers are somewhat delayed this spring on account of cold and wet weather they are about reida for the planting month which is april then the corn and cotton beeda will be drop eel and the hot beds of tobacco will be disturbed with best wishes I 1 remain yours truly ARTHUR W |
