Show Moab Happenings 6B www.moabhappenings.com July 2000 KIMMWIrW Add another J dance club to full-fledg- ed by Carrie Mossien night scene Moab1 Crazy Horse Saloon celebrates Grand Opening July 14 & 15 with Tight Rein A bands name can be as good a description as any for its personality and stage presence, and according to guitarist and vocalist Jake Wilson, band members hold a tight rein on Tight Rein. Our strength is in the tightness we have together, he says, just two weeks before the band will perform for the grand opening of the Crazy Horse Saloon in Moab. Most all of our material is solid and well rehearsed. The Crazy Horse Saloon is a new incarnation of the former Sportsmans Lounge, located at 1991 South Highway 191. Owner Wyatt hopes to build a club scene that will attract country and rock and roll buffs alike. This band is perfect for our opening celebration, Wyatt said. We may be hearing country until 10:30 p.m., and after that look out -srock and roll. traight-ahead Jake says the band will play directly to the audience - whatever they want to hear. We interact with so many different people, he says. No matter where you go people are the same; they want to hear good, solid music. Tight Reins song list is impressive - and in constant flux. Jake says the band adds at least one new song every week, keeping on top of the charts. When people go out to dance, they want to hear what theyre hearing on the radio, he said. They like familiarity. Thats not to say that Tight Rein doesnt have -and play - original music. In addition to being the band leader, Jake plays electric and acoustic guitar and vocals; Wes Haynes plays bass, Caleb' Lampton plays drums and Dameon Mullins plays electric guitar. Being serious musicians, they write their own material on occasion. But their main focus is being a working bar band. We probably spend too much time visiting people and playing practical jokes, Jake says, but we have a lot of fun doing what we do. In their own words, Tight Rein utilizes the technical diversities of each group member to deliver a solid core of contemporary Top 40 Country music l, tastefully augmented with Big Hit country and classics select original material. Attention to Rock-n-RoI- variety, correct musical interpretation and professionalism has brought the group great success with return engagements at country music dance halls, concerts, lodge organizations and private parties in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. Past concert performances include two one-hoopening shows for Ricochet at the Delta County Fair in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Tight Rein played for an outdoor concert on the Fourth of July 1999 at Paonia Cherry Days. They were also a main act in the first Thunder Mountain Jamboree in the fall of 1999 in Delta County, Colorado. Jake uses harmony with voice and guitar, the latter to simulate organ and keyboards. Dameon Mullins main thrust is electric guitar, but joins Jake on acoustic. ur "Tight Rein" will help revelers celebrate the Grand Opening of Moabs newest Club: The Crazy Horse Saloon (formerly Sportsman's Lounge.) fiddle music, He plays a mean slide guitar, guitar-base- d simulations and and pedal-steharmony vocals. piano el Dameon has played guitar professionally for 12 years, Jake said. He has played country, rock and jazz music professionally for 30 years, Jake said.
