Show 22A Moab Happenings www.moabhappenings.com July 2000 Bar-- M Canyonlands by Night Bar World renown Sound & Light show One of the oldest nightly attractions in the Moab area, and for that matter anywhere is Canyonlands by Night. Just as the name would suggest, it is a nighttime activity, but more than that it's a natural history tour, a good meal and musical entertainment. Every evening when the sunset and shadows begin to cast a sense of serenity and quiet on the mighty Colorado River, the Moab Queen begins its ascent upstream where the projection commences. An informative narration puts the scenery of the river canyon into perspective. Powerful lights bathe the towering cliffs while dancing shadows accompanied by music form undulating silhouettes to bring the narrative alive for an experience that will never be forgotten. From the moment you set foot on the Moab Queen with up to 80 other people, you know that a special treat is in store for you. Your Captain will safely guide the boat up the Colorado river as the evening sun is setting. You will see the rocks of the canyon walls change with the shifting light. A continuous narrative by your captain makes the trip seem ever so brief. As the evening shadows finally bath the canyon in darkness, the Moab Queen turns around and begins the return trip to Moab. But the best is yet to come. A light show playing giant lights on the canyon walls gives a complete new look and feel to the river that can only be experienced on this trip. The trip is timed and set to music and as you pass what you thought to be familiar landmarks you are given a light show that was years in the development and is still as fresh as the first trip over 37 years ago. For locals who think Canyonlands by Night is purely a tourist attraction, natural history buffs may want to think again. This exciting nightly activity leaves from the Old Mission Store located across the Colorado River Bridge. This unique store is with plenty of gift ideas and souvenirs.
