SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY MARCH 12, 1W7 Obituaries Vernon Arlo Wilson Vernon Arlo Wilson, age 87, died March 8 at his home in Big Water. He was born May 24, 1909 in Hamlin, Iowa to Carl C. and Nellie Duvall Wilson. He married Jewel Perkins in 1944. They later divorced. He married MacDonald Catherine Livingstone, February 6, 1976 in Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Wilson was a Navy veteran of WWII serving his counHe lived try from 1941-194most of his life in Southern California. His work and interests were varied: com farming, owning and operating a lawnmower business, and building and operating a horse stable. Vem was an outstanding horseman, a member of the LDS Church and of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, a very interesting story teller and loved to give sage advice to others. Survivors include his wife Catherine Wilson of Big Water, children: Vernon A. Jack Wilson Jr. and wife Mary of Trinidad, CA and Sharon Elaine Atkinson of Rancho Palos Verde, CA. Stepchildren: John P. (Linda) Livingstone, Detroit, MI; Terry L (Amon) Livingstone, Glendale, CA and Michael W. (Jayne) Livingstone, Cardston, Alberta; brothers and sisters; 4. Wilma Haaga, Sally Huss, Narda Pohl, Maurice Wilson, Kirk Wilson, MajaTriggs.Ardith Nash and Gordon Wilson; six grandchildren, 20 step grandchildren and four step greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Dean and Letha Stalling and brother Mike Wilson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Page Third Ward Chapel, 1500 12th Ave., Page. Burial will be in the Page Cem- etery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. Lewis Reed Canfield Lewis Reed Canfield, age 64, died March 4, 1997 at his home in Kanab, Utah with family by his side. Lewis was bom and faised in St. George, Utah. His family held an memorial service Saturday, March 8 at Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary in St. George. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Dixie Regional Hospice. Lewis will be greatly missed. Maurice Shepherd Funeral services for Maurice Shepherd have been tentatively set for Thursday, March 13 in St. George under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. Construction starts this summer on Great Hall The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that the Great Hall", spoken of by President Gordon B. Hinckley in April 1996, will be built on the block north of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. The Church said last year that the location, bordered by Main, WestTemple, North Temple and 200 North streets, was its preferred site for the new hall, but withheld a formal confirmation pending architectural and engineering studies, which have now dency said will close on May 1. Demolition of the gymnasium is expected to begin this summer. Once the site has been cleared, formal groundbreaking ceremony for the new hall will be held. In announcing plans for the hall. President Hinckley said it will be used for general conferences of the church and also will serve other church purposes as well as possibly some community cultural events."
