Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 14, 1996 Community By Dixie Brunner For whom the (wedding) bell tolls On this day of romance, there will be many a young couple contemplating marriage... married toLets face With takes day guts. depressing statistics that one in every two marriages fail, you could question the sanity of forking over several thousand dollars to make it official. But Im here to tell you there are many good reasons for tying the ceremonial knot. Matched towel sets for one! And dont forget about complete sets of drinking glasses! What about matching top and bottom sheets? To miss an opportunity to collect great gifts from friends and family (many of whom you barely know) would be an error of monumental proportions. You can be sure dear aunt Sara wouldnt buy you a china place setting just for living together. Personally, I think marriage was Gods idea of making life a little more interesting. He wanted to create a situation where the two fundamentally-differen- t human beings would have to mesh and live together in hopeful harmony. In order to accomplish this, He gave one of the two parties (namely the woman) a whole lot more patience than the other! n For example, its a fact that men are developmen-tall- y disabled when it comes to refilling ice cube trays. They are well-know- also lousy shots hitting the clothes hamper. Men often snore in totally inappropriate placeslike next to you in bed. Men are just different than women. They hyperventilate when made to shop, and their idea of romance is watching a football game in the dark. r That was an incredible pass, he says excitedly. I wouldnt know, pouts his wife glumly. I have a girlfriend who once paraded out in front of the television in her birthday suit to get her hubbys attention. The only response she got was being told to move out of the way so he could see the receiver downfield. Communication is always a challenge when youre married. Honey, we never talk anymore, whines wife. Yes we do, honey, we talk all the time, husband responds. No, I mean really talk. Okay, husband says with a sigh. What do you want to talk about? Youre just humoring me. You dont really want to talk. Wife storms off. You have to feel sorry for men. Women expect the male gender to be able to read their mind. Honey, do you like the red dress or the blue dress? Asks wife. The blue one is nice, husband answers, not aware of the implications of his reply. Whats wrong with the red dress? Nothing. I just like the blue one better, husband responds. You think I look fat in the red one, dont you? Wife accuses tearfully. No I dont honey. Wear the red one if you want. Ill never wear the red one as long as I live, wife says stomping off. But despite all their differences many marriages not only endure, but thrive. I think that most couples rather like the challenge. Happy Valentines Day!
