Show ALTERNATIVE r Planning Alternative This alternative represents a approach to resolving the five planning issues. It would require an increase in funding in order to accomplish objectives. In situations where existing management is inadequate, prescriptions are presented for the modification of such practices. Some aspects of this alternative stress development, such as the designation of major corridors, the determination of additional lands as being available for coal leasing, range and wildlife condition. Other aspects of the alternative stress resource protection, such as placing additional acreage under protective oil and gas leasing categories and stipulations, the adoption of visual resource management objectives, and the possible adjustment of grazing uses to estimated grazing capacity on intensive management allotments as indicated by monitoring studies. middle-of-the-roa- d REA rated in the south central portion of Utah. Special resources are provided protection to the extent of the law. All discretionary actions would enhance commodity production. Examples of actions under this proposal include disposal of approximately 43,700 acres of lands, designation of major utility corridors, the proposal to treat 736,000 acres to increase forage - the least restrictive prodution, the recategorization of all lands into oil and gas leasing Category etc. category, I TS E E 3 3 3 Protection Alternative The Protection Alternative emphasizes the improvement or maintenance of important and sensitive environmental values. Proposals under this alternative would modify present management practices to place highest priority on protecting key wildlife and riparianfisheries habitats, and associated noncommodity values. All discretionary actions would stress environmental protection. Examples of this proposal includes retaining all lands with sensitive resources values in Federal ownership, placing more restrictive stipulations on oil and gas leasing to protect a wider vanety of sensitive resource values, placing priority for land treatments to enhance wildlife habitat, and protecting sensitive resources from off road vehicle use. |
