Ute 112 pounders are Darren Johnson, David Powell and Mike Higgins and 119 pounders are Blake Horrocks, Scott Wilkerson and Blake Hunsaker. Battling for the 126 pound positions are Richard Horrocks, Keith Klein, Scott Hardman, Mike McCurdy and Jimmy Gray. Ute 132 pounders are Kenny Andrews, Brian Southam and Nathan Sunkees. 138 pounders are Larry Wiseman, Jim Merkley and Layne Southam. Ute 145 pounders are Mitch Hall, Bart Huber and Randy Golding. Greg Jaramillo, Russell Augustus, Neal Darlington and Jody Card are 155 pounders. Colt Mortenson, Mark Cook, Brian Murray and Kawika Teo are 167 pounders. 185 pound matmen are Steve Hatch, Mike Jackson and Justm Jenkins. Shayne Price is the Utes heavyweight tussler. The Utes have three returning starters from last season in Smuin, Johnson and R. Horrocks. Johnson placed third last year and Smuin netted sixth. Horrocks won a number of matches at the state meet. A number of this years wrestlers competed in many junior varsity matches last season. Lakei Heimuli scampered 83 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the first play of the series to give the Cougars a ten point win. Utah grabbed a lead early in the first quarter on a 21 yard pass from Larry Egger to Craig McEwen. Andre Guardi added the extra point kick. However, BYU came back and scored a touchdown on a three yard run by Heimuli. Gary Webster, who has relatives living in Vernal, connected on the extra point kick to tie up the game at Lance Lindley snared a 12 yard pass from Robbie Bosco and Webster added the extra point kick for a 14-BYU lead. However, Utah came right back with a crowd jolting 100 yard touchdown kickoff return by Tucker. Utahs Guardi connected on the extra point kick for a 4 tie. BYU regained the lead on a four yard run by Heimuli, but a one yard run by Eddie Lewis and a Guardi extra point kick made the score 1 at halftime. A 27 yard field goal by Webster and a five yard touchdown run by Vai Sikahema gave BYU a 31 to 21 lead. A flea flicker touchdown run of 50 yards, which consisted of Loren Richey catching a pass and pitching a lateral to Lewis for a six pointer, and Guardis extra point kick narrowed the BYU lead to three points at However, a touchdown penalty, an interception and a touchdown blast up the middle by Heimuli killed Utah wish. the comeback 7-- 0 Football War University won the football game down in Provo, Saturday against the University of Utah Utes, 38 to 28, but penalties wiped out two Utah scores. An amazing punt return for a touchdown by Erroll Tucker was erased on a clipping call and an illegal procedure penalty wiped out a touchdown pass early in the third quarter by the Utes. Brigham Young Some fans disagreed with the touchdown erasing calls and some were all for it, but penalties are part of a football game and unfortuately for the Utes yellow flags just dropped at the wrong time during two touchdown scores. BYU was able to come through with the touchdowns when they needed them and capitalized on costly Ute mistakes and penalties. The biggest mistake of all by the Utes occured late in the fourth quarter. The Utes recovered from the punt return touchdown disappearance and moved to BYUs 17 yard line. The Utes attempted a third down pass, but it was intercepted by BYU, which erased Utahs lead taking hopes and a shot at tie on a successful field goal. Swimmers net tourney honors The Uintah High Swim Team has been practicing hard for two months to prepare for their meets they will encounter this winter season. They have competed so far in two meets. The Utes traveled to Provo for their first meet Nov. 1. They were over powered by Provo, however. Chris Jaussi took two 2nds and one fourth. Tim Coffelt took two seconds, Nolan Jepson took a 2nd place. Justin Hodgkinson took 2nd and 3rd. Justin Jaussi took a 3rd. Crystal Newman took a 2nd and two 3rds. Tina Stagg took a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cammy Burke took three 2nds. Macie Miller took two 2nds, and one 3rd Nicole Caulsen took a 2nd place. Heather Miller took a 2nd. LaDonna Spencer took a 2nd place. High point boys were Chris Jaussi 7, Justin Hodgkinson 6, Justin Jaussi and Tim Coffelt with 5. Nov. 14 Timp View traveled to Vernal to compete in Uintahs second meet. The two teams battled for points and at the half after the diving competition Uintah was 6 points ahead. However, Timp View won when the points were tallied at the end of the in competition. High point boys were: Justin Hodgkinson 11, Chris Jaussi 10 and Jared Spencer, 8. Timp Views coach wrote a complimentary letter to the team congratulating them on their sportsmanship attitude and hard work. The next meet will be in Granger Nov. 23 at 9 : 30 a m. A banquet was held Nov. 16 in Salt Lake City honoring the top Utah swimmers. Thirty clubs and 125 swimmers participated in this honor banquet. Each swimmer who had achieved a national A recognition received a medal at this special awards dinner. Over 1600 Utah swimmers competed for A times. Dave Howich, president of the Utah Swimming Association, addressed the audience. He commented that these athletes were truly dedicated. They were known for their sportsmanship, dedication and also for their citizenship and their grades. He said that all swimmers are winners whether they were champions in, or outside the water. Vernal Vipers had five of their members honored at the special awards banquet.
