Nov. day, LaRae Caldwell was honored as poet of the month She read and explained several of the poems she had written for the clubs local contest. Mildred Mansfield gave a lesson on Punctuation and the Poem. The business meeting was conducted by president Amy Pope. The next meeting of the club will be a Christmas party at the Vernal Contest Lamplighter Restaurant. winners will be announced and gifts exchanged. Credit women have installation banquet Dog is funding tool for Gamma Beta goal Credit Women International (CWI) of Vernal had their annual installation banquet Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Inn in Sheraton Vernal. CWI members, the Welcoming their spouses and employers, was Shanna Daniels, CWI president for 1984-8The invocation was given by Curtis Atwood. Guest speaker was Phillip Ellis, superintendant of schools for Uintah School District. He spoke on the importance of education as related to economics. Musical numbers were provided by Denise Angulo who sang two numbers, and Rhonda Larsen played the cello accompanied by Tracy Caldwell on the piano. Remarks were given by both Shanna Daniels, outgoing president and Zona Larsen, newly installed president. The installation ceremony was performed by Diane Augustus, past and banquet president for 1983-8committee chairwomen. 4 5. Bingham history subject of meeting Buena Vista camp of DUP held their Nov. 21 meeting at the home of Margaret Elison in Tridell. Blanch Smith conducted, music was led by Helen Hacking accompanied by Mildred Mansfield. The history of Lacinda Gates Bingham was given by Margaret Elison. Louesa Hacking gave a lesson on Sanctuary in Mexico. Luncheon was served to 11 members and one guest, Vida McKee. The next meeting will be Dec. 19 at the home of Blanch Smith. DAR Chapter meets Nov. 21 The Vernal Chapter of the NSDAR met at the home of Regent Betty T. Bowden Nov. 12. The opening ritual and invocation were given by Betty Bowden. All participated in the pledge, reciting the American creed and singing the Star Spangled Banner. They were accompanied by Deborah K. Southam. Regent Bowden read the presidents general message for October and November and the DAR magazines national defense message. Deborah K. v Southam reported on the summit. It was reported that at the Utah State DAR workshop, the Vernal chapter won the historical presentad tion made and presented by Alta on the Tabernacle. It will be presented at the NSDAR at their April 16 convention. Enid W. Hatch gave the program on two Indian chiefs in the early 1800s. Luncheon was served by Enid Hatch. The next meeting is at the home of Thelma 0. Hicks. The officers for the 1985-8- 6 year and the companies they represent include: Zona Larsen, president, Zions Bank; Susan Allred, 1st vice president, Jones Paint and Glass; Lois Hartle, 2nd vice president, Basin State Bank; Gina Massey, 3rd vice president, Utah Power and Light; Melody Nalley, secretary-treasureUtah Power and Light; Carmen Workman, historian, Dans Tire Service; and Gene Hall of Zions First National Bank will be the 1985-8- 6 godfather for the club. r, Gamma Beta, a chapter of Beta Sigma, met for their second meeting of the month Monday, Nov. 18 a the home of Fran Harding. There were nine members present. Marilyn Gragert announced that the new service project for the group will be assisting Social Services by purchasing a movie; Developing Parenting Skills. The funds to purchase the movie are being raised by proceeds from a donation drawing for a six pound Pound Puppy handmade of polyester materials by Thelma Hicks. The dog will be given away at a Chamber of Commerce Turkey Day drawing Dec. 7. It was previously to be given away at a style show at Ashtons which will no longer take place as the store is going out of Ladies Petroleum party to be Dec. 4 Progressive Arts Ladies Petroleum Club Christmas party and December meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4. Bring a Christmas tree ornament to exchange and a favorite holiday recipe. Mary Stringham, program chairman, has arranged for the Uintah High to entertain with School Christmas carols. Members are reminded that the club is sponsoring a family for Christmas. Anyone wishing to bring a donation of food, canned goods, or baked items to add to the basket may do so. After a short business meeting, the time was turned to over to Kathyleen McOmber. She introduced her guest, Rhoda DeVed, who gave the program. Mrs. DeVed talked about the life of her father, Leo Thorne. Mr. Thome was an outstanding photographer and took many pictures of Vernal from the early 1900s to the present time. He left a large collection of pictures and also many artifacts he had found around the Uintah Basin. The next meeting will be a Christmas party at the Sheraton Inn Friday, Dec. 13. discuss Mexico Fort Thornburgh Camp DUP held their Nov. 13 meeting at the home of Norma Smith. Captain Betty T. Bowden conducted the meeting. Vergie Adams gave a lesson on Sanctuary in Mexico. Mrs. Bowden gave the history of Laura Sroul. New members of the Camp are Lynn Hardy and Nelda Gray. The December meeting will be at the home of Vergie Adams. Merry Mrs. see old time dolls The Merry Mrs. Club met Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Cheryl Jolley home. The eveping was by Lisa Jolley. Ann Tucker, an employee of Country Store, was invited to present the history of dolls. Mrs. Tucker has a collection of 300 dolls. She told about early jointed wooden dolls and showed samples of early painted China dolls, bisque dolls and others from the golden age of dolls; 1850 to 1930. Dolls from more recent years were also displayed including some constructed from composition, plastic, felt and vinyl. The evening was climaxed with refreshments. Jensen Post of Am. Legion plan activities American Post 124 Legion members voted at their last meeting of Nov. 14 to keep the post hall open three nights a week for the convenience and pleasure of Legion and Legion Auxiliary members, according to commander Mac McCarrell. Any America Legion member of any post in the U.S. is welcome upon of their current presentation membership card. The Jensen Post hall will be open starting Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. Thereafter the hall will be open to members on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Post members may bring guests and will assume responsibility for those persons in the hall. McCarrell said the date for the post Christmas party will be announced at the next meeting of post and auxiliary members Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the post hall. It was also announced that a big New Years Eve party and dance with a good country-wester- n band will take place. There will be fun and noisemakers and a breakfast served at the event. All members are urged to bring their friends and spend the evening with the American Legion in Jensen. self-estee- Lether instructs Current Topics The Nov. 20 meeting of the Current Topics Club was at the home of Wilma Webb with Joy King as cohostess. The program was given by Kelly Lether, a member of the Vernal Lions Club, on QUEST, a drug and alcohol abuse program which is being taught to all the 6th grade business. The Thanksgiving social will be Thursday, Nov. 21 at Marilyn Gragerts home at 7 : 30 p m Marilyn announced that the city council luncheon fashion show will be at the Sheraton Thursday, Nov 21 at noon. The cost is $2 for the fashion show and members will buy their own lunch. The cultural program was given by Manuel Oellermann and Margaret Pilcher with the subject, The World Around Us They discussed the different cultures and customs of Southern Europe. Refreshments were served by the hostess and the door prize was won by Cleo Mortensen. The next meeting is Dec. 2 at the Pilcher home.
