Show Wednesday, November 27, 1985 Vemfll 27 ExreS$fld VeftlSef Uintah and Union girls workout for season games Uintah and Union High School girls varsity basketball team are busy fine tuning their basketball skills during practice at each school. Union defeated Duchesne in its first varsity game of the season and also defeated a City League team in a scrimmage, Friday. The scrimmage was played in place of the cancelled Park City game, which was scheduled for November 22. Park City didnt have enough girls come out for their team. basketball The Cougars will battle Wasatch, Wednesday and Morgan, December 6 on the road and then will be hosted by the Uintah Utes, December 7 in the season opener for the Vernal team. Uintahs girls will host Grand Junction Central, December 14 and will battle Union Grantsville, December 13 and Lehi, December 14 in Roosevelt. The Ute girls will host Grand Junction, December 17 and will battle Green River in Wyoming, December 20. The Lady Cougars will battle South Summit, December 20 in Kamas. LoaKay Bowthorpe is the head Uintah High School basketball coach and Lisa Stolk is in her first year as head coach at Union High School. Stolk played college ball at Southern Utah State College. Practice has been going pretty good. We will probably go with 14 players on the team this season. We have three seniors on the team in Shellie Belcher, forward; Jennifer Huber, guard and Andy Critton, guard. Belcher and Huber were starters last year on the Uintah varsity team and Critton played on the junior varsity and varsity teams, said Bowthorpe. 5-- three year varsity member, right, competes in basketball action.
