No military action can be held up in any way, she said over protests by opposition lawmakers in Parliament who wanted to debate an invasion. To do so would be to give notice to the dictator who is our enemy. She said she believed the next day or two" will decide whether a peace agreement can be reached. In New York, U.N. Secretary-GenerJavier Perez de Cuellar suspended talks after Argentina asked for time to consider Britains latest negotiating position. He said he hoped to resume efforts Wednesday and would know by Thursday whether we have achieved a real peaceful solution. In Buenos Aires, Argentine leaders met to assess the desperate talks to avert war, and Foreign Minister Nicanor Costa Mendez said: who knows what could happen in the next 24 hours. Argentinas military governor of the Falklands Gen. Mario Menendez said his troops are in outstanding military condition, to repel British invaders.
