Show Tuesday, October 9, 1990 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 5 A Castleview hospital welcomes the new docs on the block By LAYNE MILLER Staff writer Some of Carbon Countys familiar doctors have moved out of the area recently, but we also have some new docs on the block." Castleview Hospitals assis- tant administrator, Tadd Morley, explained, "We have lost some familiar faces. But I think we are actually in better shape now, with the new doctors, than we were before." New to the Castleview medical team are: Thomas Miller, M.D., psychiatry; David J. Morris, M.D., anesthesiology; and Arvid Carlson, M.D., emergency room. Miller has assumed the role of psychiatrist for the hospital. The first change he made was to change the name of the unit from the stress ward to the Behavioral Health Pavilion. Miller came to Price from Grand Junction, where he was in private practice for 24 years. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee and received his psychiatric degree from the University of Oregon. Miller says the area served by Castleview is large enough to support a psychiatrist. "The problems here are very similar to patient problems and problem mix in any area, he said. Miller will head the Behavioral Health Pavilion, plus he will have a private practice, too. His office is located at 894 E. 100 North in Price. Morris is a graduate of UCLA. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, and he specialized in anesthesiology at UCLA Hospital Morris is pleased to be in Price. His wife is from Utah originally, and he loves the atmosphere found in a small town. His wife's mother graduated from Carbon High School. She is the former Cora been very impressed with the EMTs in both counties. Even though the patients are sometimes many miles from Castleview, the EMTs are in constant contact with the ER doctors from the time they leave for an emergency to the time they arrive at the ER doors. They give us the vital statis- Fuller. "I wanted to get away from the big city and the violence there," Morris said. I considered coming to Price once before, but we didnt. When this position opened up, we tics of the patient while they are enroute, and they update jumped at it. Morris also specializes in chronic pain relief. He said people think anesthesiology is just putting people to sleep. But it's much more than that. He explained that he gives epidural anesthestics to ladies delivering babies. He also helps relieve chronic pain suffered by some people. We can use nerve blocks or long-termanagement of pain relief, using drugs of various types, he said. Most of Morris patients are referrals from other local doctors, but he can also be contacted through Castleview Hospital. Carlson works two shifts in the emergency room at Castleview, plus he travels to the East Carbon Medical Clinic, the Green River Clinic and sometimes to the Emery County Medical Center. Carlson loves his job. He says, "Im just a farm boy." He loves visiting the rural clinics, but he likes the excitement the emergency room offers. In ER, you see everything from sore throats to big time trauma, he said. At the medical centers, you deal with sore throats, runny noses, fevers, a little bit of everything. He went on to say he has really been impressed with how nice the people are here. The hospital told me how nice they were, but I thought it was just PR, he said. Carlson said he has also little while, he said. Castleview Hospital has a working agreement to staff the East Carbon Medical Center, and the corporation recently purchased the Emery Medical Center. The ER doctors currently staff the Emery facility, but Morley said the hospital hopes to hire a doctor to work there exclusively in the near future. every m 24-ho- ur FABRIC BARGAIN BASEMENT 1 654 S.
