The Babcock Theatre will host a comedy full of get rich quick schemes, misrep- resentation and the often rocky course of true love. The Beaux Stratagem, written by George Farquhar, is one of the UofU Threatre Departments Actors Training presentations this spring, playing in rotating repertory with Dave Higgins Bad Dreams and Be f Bop. The Beaux' Stratagem was written in 1706 and is considered a good transition example of the play, wavering between the cynical attitude toward sex and marriage of the early Restoration and the sentimental one of the later 18th century. According to directorfaculty member Sandra Shotwell, its the type of play that allows the director to interpret the ending. v v The cast includes: Stanton Davis, Belinda Morgan, Patrick White, Kevin Hassett, Rick Haddock, Michelle ONeill, Sharyn Jensen, Diane Davis, Christine Iaderosa, Richard Nelson, Jeffrey Owen, Matthew Karas, Kathyryn Larsen, Christopher Ivins, Kurt Bernhardt, Darci Johnson, Devon Williams, Jon Seaman, Steve Kissel and John Benton Runnels. Most of the cast will also appear in Bad Dreams and Be Bop, which opens Wendesday for a week and then plays in rotating repertory with The Beaux Stratagem. The Beaux Stratagem plays through Saturday and May 29, 31, June 4 and 6 at 8 p.m. It will play at 7 p.m., Sunday and May 31 at 2 p.m. The Babcock Theatre is located downstairs at Pioneer Memorial Theatre. For tickets, call the box office at Philadelphia Orchestra To Perform At Symphony Hall SALT LAKE. The Philadelphia Orchestra - long considered to be one of the worlds premier orchestras - will perform in Symphony Hall at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. The orchestra will perform Etlers Concerto for Wind Quintet and Orchestra, Stravinskys Suite from the L Oiseau de feu Ballet (the -- 1919 Version) and Beethovens Symphony No. 5 in C Firebird, minor. Music Director Riccardo Muti took the helm in 1980, and the orchestra, with its traditional high energy continues to make what major critics call The Philadelphia Sound. The orchestra is celebrating this year the anniversary of its first na- tional tour - having stopped for a performance in Salt Lake City in 1936. Riccardo Muti becomes just the music director in the orchestras history. Born in Naples in 1941, he studied at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory, the University of Naples, and the Verdi Conservatory in Milan. In 1960 he won the Guido Cantelli International Competition for conductors, which helped launch his international career. A regular guest conductor with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic orchestras, this fall he will also become the Music Director of La Scala, in Milan, as well as continuing his career with the Philadelphia Orchestra. David and Jason Horne, sons of Bruce and Ruth Horne, received the Eagle Scout award at a court of honor April 2. The awards were presented by Dave Daniels, scoutmaster. David is a member of Explorer Post 9365. Helping him earn the award were scoutmaster Gary Juretich and post leader Jerry Giles. The lad earned 21 merit badges, his favorite the personal management badge. For his service project he made collapsible quilt frame stands and a silverware box for the Taylorsville 8th ward Relief Society. He has served as patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader and holds the On My Honor award. A junior at Taylorsville high, he plays on the junior varsity soccer team, swims and plays drums in the band and concert band.
