Smith '( Sometimes Ya Just Gotta Trust Me Jeffrey Chadwick Smith of Fair-fielCalifornia, took Sandra Lee Rose of Taylorsville as his bride in a double-rin- g ceremony performed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple the morning of May 9, 1986. d, Now, Ive told you lots of things . . passed on many ideas . . . and claimed many surprises for you, but todays is really . It comes well recommended however, so dont just think Ethels on one again, and dismiss it as not so good. It is good. It is good. It is good. I swear by it. Its a breakfast food, dont you know, and came straight from Madelyns Kitchen on Channel 11. Madelyn, in case you havent found her, is a French woman who gives classes on TV and she is a dream. Move over, Julia Child, move over. Cover the casserole with lid, saran or whatever and put it in the refrigerator and FORGET ABOUT THE WHOLE THING FOR AT LEAST 48 HOURS. Impossible? Yeah, I know, I kept peaking the first time I made it, and, yeah, it was just sitting there. A wedding breakfast at Hill Air Force Base Officers club followed the nuptial rites and were followed that same evening by a reception held at the Old Meeting House. The oatmeal was getting softer and the raisins plumper, thats all. BUT DONT GET NERVOUS. STIR IF YOU WANT, BUT JUST LET IT SIT. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terrel Lee Rose and graduated from Taylorsville high as its 1984 valedictorian. She is attending Brigham Young University as a trustees scholarship with a major in English. Her new husband is the son of Colonel and Mrs. Stephan B. Smith, stationed currently at McGuire Air Force Base, in New Jersey. He graduated from high school in San Antonio, Texas and is also a student at BYU, majoring in Business. He has filled an LDS mission to Florida. Jennifer Neeley attended the bride as maid of honor while other attendants were Niki Guevara, Lisa Smith, Jeanne Porter, Jennifer Smith and Rori Forsyth. Flower girls were Holly and Heather Forsyth. Jamie (Mrs. Michael) China and Gina Goodsell attended the guest book. Madelyn says this breakfast food is an old peasant dish. So taken for granted that no one every dreamed of writing down the how-toEveryone knew how to make it . . . had their own version . . . and everyone grew up on it. s. She said she and her brothers and sisters did, and when they went to visit with any of their, aunts . . . this is what they had for breakfast, too. Okay, enough of background. whats good to eat. Lets get down to Bteaklaal CeteaE Take one cup raw oatmeal. The regular kind, instant oatmeal. NOT the Mix it, in a covered casserole, with about Vz cup milk. Now, I dont especially like milk and use powdered when I need it. So .... I just toss in some powdered milk and then hold the dish under the cold water tap until the oatmeal is nice and slushy. ( See how exact the recipe is? ) tsp.cinnamon, dash of cloves, nutmeg, mace or whatever spice you desire and '4 to 13 cup raisins. Some people, Madelyn says, add a bit of honey or a spoon full of sugar, but I dont and mine is good. All right, now add a xk But now is when you must listen to me carefully and not do one thing I don't tell you to do. Hear me? Then after its sat there for a couple of days, plan on it for breakfast. NO cooking, see. Put a few tablespoons full in a bowl and top with any fresh fruit you happen to have. Diced raw apples, peaches, pears, bananas, whatever you wish. No added cream or milk. Enjoy and be surprised. Duties of best man were performed by Raymond Biggs and ushers were Rich Porter and Steven, Jason, Brian and Brandon Rose. Youll hold back on your first taste, I know, for I did, too. But be bra ve. It s good the second day, better the third day and absolutely sweet enough to be served for dessert on the fourth day. Mine has only lasted that long once, but trust me, trust The newlyweds will honeymoon in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and make their home in Salt Lake. me. Ive experimented and used diced dates instead of the raisins, with good results, too. But it must be some dried fruit such as those two, because, in the long ripening process, the fruit gives out its sugar and you have a breakfast fit for a queen, and her family. And I do mean you.
