The exhibit will be on display through April 7 at Whitmore library, 2197 E. 7000 South. Colorful Kite Tales is a presentation of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition SALf -- 9a.m. to5:30p.m. In conjunction with the Whitmore exhibit, three other library system branches have planned special kite related activities this month. One program, For Kite Enthusiasts Only, is scheduled at two The original stageplay version of Harry Segalls Heaven Can Wait opened last weekend at the Mainstage of Promised Valley Playhouse, and I was jazzed to finally see it on the stage. I arrived with high hopes, chomping at the bit to see the Salt Lake alter-ego- s of Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, James Mason and Dyan Cannon. I was all set to really enjoy myself The high hopes began to crumble even before the curtain went up Saturday night when the welcoming the man m announcer (you know the tuxedo who offers a prayer before the show starts) gave us a pep talk about being a responsive audience and how much that means to the performers and that Saturday night audiences are always the best. I wonder what happened Thursday and Friday nights? ) They continued crumbling in the opening scene at Mr. Jordans office n when his and heavenly lectern broke under the weight of a large book, leaving Mr. Jordan, played by Russel Brown, to ad lib his (SITES) and consists fo 16 colorful exhibition panels made up of vivid illustrations and informative text. Yet kites have also been instrumental in adtechnology, vancing bridge-buildin- g aeronautical research and military Technological innovations have developed from Alexander Graham Bells tetrahedral kites, one of which carried a man 168 feet in the air, and from the Wright brothers use of kites to explore aerodynamic questions which led to the development of the first airplane. That brings up a bright spot the performance of Brown. Whenever he is on the stage, the show shines. He exudes the unflappable confidence that you would expect from executive-leve- l management in the heavenly corporate structure. An excellent performance throughout, highlighted during the moments when he sits at the grand piano and unerringly tickles the ivories while verbally jousting with Joe Pendleton. Delightful. Joe Pendleton is played by Paul La Chance. He is very convincing in his scenes with Mr. Jordan, does well when talking to his agent. Max Levene, and plays the saxophone just wrong enough to be right. But it falls apart for him dealing with Bette Logan, the woman he loves, and Julia Farnsworth, the woman his body is married to. Joes old friend and manager Max Levene is given life by Bill Turner. He has the look of a man who has seen that knockout punch coming in for a landing on himself and his fighters for a lot of years. He gives a consistently rewarding performance with his best moments being when hes trying to find or cut a deal with (continued on back page) - by Lee Wege Green Sheet Theater Critic Service strategies. - ONE OF THE OLDEST . . . kit lgnds says a kit hlpd to stablish th Han Dynasty in China, pictured hr in an exhibit from Colorful Klto Tolot, which continues through April 7 at Whitmor Library. locations on two separate Saturdays - Whitmore library on March 22 and ' West Valley Library on March 29.
