Members of Brownie troop 69 will visit Pioneer Valley hospital today (Thursday) to present yesterdays firstborn a handmade quilt. This marks the third consecutive year the girls have made a quilt to donate to the first baby born on March 12, the birthday of the Girl Scouts of America, said leader Caryl Jensen. The girls made a picture of a Brownie for the quilt top, pieced squares and tied the quilt, she said. While at the hospital, they will also tour the emergency facilities, the leader noted. The girls call themselves the Flower Troop. Each member, including the leaders, has a flower name, she said. Mrs. Jensen is known as Chrysanthemum (mum for short.) Coleaders are Pat Wilson, Poinsettia and Jan Jennings, otherwise known as Daisy. Members include Abby Thomson, (Poppy); Tiffany Jensen, (Pansy); Dawn Erickson, (Holly); Jamie Nyborg, (Wildflower); Erin Schar-ma(Bluebell); Katie Dahl, (Violet); Teasha Jennings, (Daffodil); Trinity Vigil, (Blossom); Heidi Smith, (Rose); Melany Clark, scapegoat. For the past seven years, she said, Magna has furnished the county with a building and all utilities for $50 a month rent, plus the cleaning of the center and cutting the grass once a week. In return, the residents of Magna had health services available on a weekly basis until last summer when they cut down the services to twice a month and the hours from five to three. As far as saving money is concerned," she added, we fail to see how paying $50 a month rent is more than the $800 a month they are paying in Kearns. But I think the thing that makes us feel the worst about this whole situation is the fact that without the partnership with the county, the council will very likely have to close the Council Center, which has been a great service to this community, thanks to the generosity of GRANGER. The Granger high theater department has never been one to back off from a challenge when it presents nonmusical productions. Generally armed with a script that has been a popular movie as well as a stage play, director Brenda Park has offered her young thespians chances to play some outstanding roles and at the same time gives the patron fare that is familiar. Kevin Dunbars performance as Norman Thayer was incredible. He was a crotchety curmudgeon extraordinaire. Everything, from his movement on stage, to perfect delivery of lines and excellent interaction with other cast members, worked to perfection. It was a difficult role and he attacked it beautifully. Perhaps many performers could have been adequate, but there were things about this performance that set it in the sublime range - most especially his walk and his use of his face to give off the effect of age. But nothing was overdone. Equally as effective, but in a con- trasty sunny way was Jodie Fisher as Ethel Thayer. She too had the maturity factor well in hand. Hers was a happy character that all could love. She resisted any urge to copy Hepburn, probably knowing it couldnt be done. What she did was make her character work In her own way. Daniel Howes gave a fine formance as Billy Rae, without overdoing the obnoxious bit. He was effective because he was believable. There was depth to the character as well as an entertaining factor highlighted most by his expressions. Elaine Guymon offered a credible effort as Chelsea Thayer Wayne. She handled the moments of high emotion extremely well, interacting differently with all characters, which was a plus. As Charlie Martin, Lars Nordfelt was an excellent and entertaining character. He was jolly and gave off just a hint of dumbness, that worked so well. He seemed especially well cast for his role. Craig Blackhams brief but important appearance Bill Rae was also effective, with just the right hint of nervousness in meeting the Thayers. it was a suberb production that included some fine directional efforts, such as the characters being actually wet when they came in from a rain storm. The shows timing was excellent. There simply were no weak links, anywhere. But the most outstanding aspect was how well the roles were played, a credit both to the performers and to the director.
