Show THE GREEN SHEET 4 Wednesday, July 24, 1985 Cumorah Pageant Includes Three Local Faces Mayor Maloney To Seek PALMYRA, N.Y. Three Green Sheet area residents are among young Americans from throughout the United States and Canada In the cast of the 48th annual Hill Cumorah Pageant, which opens near here Friday. They are Wendy and Brent K. Wolf of Taylorsville and Rekehl Satter-thwait- e of Bennion. Entitled Americas Witness For Christ, the pageant is an annual summer presentation of the LDS church. With a cast of more than 600 children and adults, the pageant spans 25 hillside stages, making it Re-electi- on WEST VALLEY. Mayor Jerry Maloney announced this week his into the post tention to seek he has held since the council-managform of government was instituted here in January, 1982. In so doing, the mayor became the first to toss his hat into the West Valley City political ring during this municipal election year. Maloney said he intends to actually file for election yet this week. The filing deadline is Aug. 27. In making known his intention to run again, Maloney offered his view of what he feels is one of the greatest challenges confronting the city at the moment. Its the implementation of a master flood control plan the city is now developing, the mayor said, responding to a question from the Green Sheet. He went on to explain that he er for complete drainage the Kearns-Chesterfiel- Drain, d along with cleaning of Decker Lake for use as a park and flood retention basin to further enhance the area and its prime commercial property. In another area, Maloney said he feels the city is not likely to be allowing RM (high density residential) zoning of any magnitude, over and above what exists here now. He pointed out, in view of criticism that some areas have been saturated with high density housing, that the majority of that property had been zoned for such development when the area was still unincorporated. Turning to the citys present form of government, council-manage- r, Maloney explained that he sees no need for change, even though three of the countys largest cities (Salt Lake City, Sandy, Murray) have the mayor-councform. The mayor said when West Valleys government changed to council-manag3Vfe years ago, there was a need for a professional (city manager) to take over and run the everyday operations of the city. Now, the mayor went on, the city is one of the best-rufinancially strong cities in the state and there is no apparent need to consider a change. There would never be any attempt on my part to charge the pre il er BURIED. sent form of government, Maloney asserted. He said he doesnt think the mayor-councform would work The only person it any better. would be advantageous to fs the mayor, he said. Addressing the area of economic development, the mayor stressed the importance of attracting business and industry to the city. Asked whether the city needs to do more in this area, Maloney responded, The city is very aggressive -but quietly so. Maloney, who resides at 7085 Loch Ness in Hunter, served as president of the Salt Lake County Council of Governments in 1984 and is currently chairman of the Wasatch Front Regional Council, an association of governments serving the Salt Lake-Ogde-n metropolitan area.
